Energy Data Hackathon with UCL and Voltaware

To mark the launch of the new MSc in Energy Systems and Data Analytics, the UCL Energy Institute has teamed up with Voltaware and the UCL Data Science Society for an energy data hackathon.  The challenge will be to utilise data from Voltaware’s proprietary home energy monitoring system and to come up with a machine learning algorithm that performs best at identifying the sources of energy consumption in a home using high frequency electricity metered data. This is known as energy disaggregation using non-intrusive load monitoring. A training data set will be provided and the algorithm that demonstrates the highest accuracy on a test data set will be the metric. Teams are allowed to whichever tools they deem best and any other sources of data they can think of.  Enjoy a weekend of hacking and problem solving investigating how data science can be used in the energy industry.  Prizes: Voltaware are sponsoring a £500 prize for the winning team as well as offering the opportunity to do summer internships. Who can attend:  We’re looking for creative people interested in energy and using data science to tackle challenging problems. The competition is open only to undergraduates. Maximum team size is 3 people.
