Exploring Practice: Arts-led projects for targeted young people
This event is part of the CashBack for Creativity Programme Phase 3 (2014-17), a fund administered by Creative Scotland and funded by the Scottish Government’s CashBack for Communities programme, which redistributes the proceeds of crime to benefit disadvantaged young people across Scotland.
We are delighted to have Chrissie Tiller and Snook facilitate a Learning Day for practitioners and organisations delivering arts led projects to young people who experience barriers to participation. There are 70 spaces available for a day of debate, discussion and solution finding – a platform to enable a range of artists and arts organisations to explore their practice and share learning.
What will happen?
“You begin to work with the individual through the needs of the group but the group is the most important thing, the collective and the beat.” (Artist, CashBack Research Project, BoP Consulting, Unpublished 2017)
A research project commissioned through the CashBack for Creativity Phase 3 programme (2014-2017) explored the experiences of young people and practitioners in the delivery of arts led projects to young people who experience barriers to participation. This Learning Day is about exploring some of those themes, reflect on your practice, and how we can use key knowledge and experiences to develop useful resources that assist in the future delivery of projects. Some of the themes include:
* ‘communities of practice’: delivering arts led projects in a participatory arts setting
* ‘how to build the capacity of artists and organisations’ for the delivery of creative projects with vulnerable young people
* ‘partnership’s and progression routes’: understanding effective project models and best practice in engagement
What will you do?
Hackathon: Discover, Define, Develop and Deliver
Through workshops and collaborative discussion we’re going to explore what the challenges are around delivering arts led projects to a range of young people who experience barriers to participation. A mini Hackathon will tease out all your experience, knowledge and ideas - and a space to share all this thinking.
Outcome: What do useful resources look like?
We hope this will be a day to think and reflect on your own creative practice. We also want to use the shared learning from the Hackathon to assist in developing effective, tangible resources that positively impact on the development and delivery of your projects.
Who?
If you or your organisation deliver arts led projects to young people who experience barriers to participation we believe this day is a valuable opportunity to explore your own creative practice. It is also an opportunity for wider networking with other practitioners and delivery partners who are working with targeted young people across Scotland.
