    Participants will be asked to use data from the Factom Blockchain to build a Smart Contract application. The Factom Blockchain is full of data and we would love to see the smart contract ideas you’ll build while leveraging the power of blockchain technology. Come together with blockchain experts and beginners alike to hash your great ideas into action.

    What are the prize amounts?

    1st Place: $5,000

    Who should attend?

    Anyone who’s interested in the potential of blockchain technology! Whether you’re a designer, developer, UI/UX Guru or just someone with a great idea, everyone is welcome to form or join a team.

    Can I participate remotely?

    One member, at minimum, must be in attendance in Chicago for the presentation.

    How many team members do I need?

    Teams can be any size (average team size is 2.5).

    How do I form a team?

    We encourage participants to start forming teams before the event. If you would like to start a team or are looking for an existing team to join, be sure to attend the Friday evening mixer or make an announcement at the opening ceremony on Saturday.

    What if I don't know how to code?

    You are still welcome! As long as you come willing to learn and ready to contribute ideas, you can contribute to a team.

    What technical information do I need to know beforehand?

    None at all! Non-technical members are still welcome to participate. If you’d like to prepare yourself for the hackathon, feel free to browse the Factom Documentation located on our site.

    What is the judging criteria?

    Judges will evaluate your hack based on Scale & Complexity, Innovation, Quality of Implementation, and Presentation.

    Who judges the winners?

    The winning team will be decided by a jury comprised of industry experts and professionals at Factom. Stay tuned for more details! 

    What are the demos like?

    Demos will be done "Science Fair Style" where each team has a table and judges will walk around to each team. You will be able to pitch your idea and show your code will answering questions direct from the judges.

    The top 3 will then give 10min presentations and be awarded a prize. Those choosen to do the final presentation will be provided with A/V support, a microphone, and a projector.

    Will food be provided during the Hackathon?

    Yes, you will be provided food and drinks throughout the Hackathon. You can also bring your own food and drinks if you prefer.

    Is the venue open all night? 

    Yes, the venue will be open through the night. There will be a night shift of Factom employees on site. 

    What will be provided during the Hackathon?

    Free wi-fi access.

    Two-day food and beverages.

    Mentors for groups.

    Welcome kit.  

    Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

    Nope!

    What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

    • CTA Red Line (‘L’): The Chicago campus is closest to Red Line’s Chicago stop, which is three blocks west of Michigan Avenue.
    • CTA Bus Service: A plethora of CTA bus routes provide service near the campus. Check the CTA System Map to find your best option.
    • Metra: There are many train lines that go into downtown Chicago.
