French Higher Ed Hackathon: Visualization Challenge!
Background
The Embassy of France in th US, in partnership with the University of San Francisco Data Institute, Big Data Hubs West, and Berkeley Institute of Data Science is excited to host a student hackathon to encourage Franco-US integration, particularly in higher education. After 3 succesful editions in Washington DC, we are hosting our first edition in San Francisco.
This hackathon is open to technical and non-technical participants alike, focused on creating static and dynamic data visualizations to explore Franco-US cultural integration through student travel. The goal is to use data storytelling to identity and better target students based in US in order to attract them to study abroad in France.
Topic: Visualization Challenge - "Visualize That Student!"
The Higher Education Department of the Embassy of France in the US plays a key role in promoting opportunities and advocating for education abroad. As part of its hope for resurgence, France is looking to engage communities worldwide as part of a greater campaign to exclaim that “France is Back!” One particular focus is on higher education and educating students looking to study in foreign countries, particularly students in the United States. Where in the past year the Embassy has charged its team to advocate and examine the ways that students find programs, this year their team, as an extension of Campus France, looks to build a marketing campaign to engage and inform.
Submissions may include (but are not limited to) a marketing campaign, data visualizations of provided French study abroad data and websites matching students to desired study abroad destinations.
