Confirmed topics: "Blockchain-based distributed shared-computing", Professor Dr. Chong Li (Columbia U) "Democratizing Data Science in Healthcare", Dr. Joel Park "Data Science in Finance", Kavya Krishna "Building a large-scale AI platform", Waleed Nasir "Adopting AI in healthcare - NLP and ML", Niteen Kumar "Predicting Customer Loyalty To Merchants with Tensorflow", Harry Moreno "Spark for Beginners: A deep dive and tutorial", Waseem Hussain "Distributed word embedding with Spark", Naiem Yageneh "Analyzing Ethereum mainnet with Python", Professor Jamiel Sheikh (Columbia, NYU) "What is Data (Really) And What Can You Do (And Not to Do) with it", Walter Perry The printed book ticket will get you a hardcopy of the presentation slides in a printed and bound book form to use as reference while you observe the tutorials Speakers' Biographies Kavya Krishna - Born and brought up in a small town of Western India, Kavya is all about experiments. She started her career in Data after graduating from UMass Amherst in Computer Science. After working for a few years in Business Intelligence and Data Architecture, She recently started working with Finance- Subscribers Management and Analysis at SiriusXM to help them with technology and their Data needs. As she learns more about the world of Finance, she's been experimenting with Data science and Finance. An advocate of Women education, she also co-founded SOWCoders (Society of Women Coders), a non profit that conducts free coding camps for girls in developing countries. Professor Jamiel Sheikh - Jamiel is CEO of Chainhaus, an advisory, software development, application studio and education company focused on blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Jamiel has over 15 years of experience in technology, capital markets, real estate and management and is an adjunct professor at Columbia Business School, NYU and CUNY teaching graduate-level blockchain, AI and data science subjects. He is currently authoring a book on Corda with O’Reilly and runs one of the largest blockchain, AI and data science Meetups in NYC. Jamiel is a licensed real estate agent in New York and New Jersey with Douglas Elliman.Jamiel holds an MBA from Columbia University and BBA from Baruch College and is completing his second Masters in Artificial Intelligence from Georgia Institute of Technology. Jamiel enjoys coding in over 8 languages, travel and the elegant nuances of MMA. Professor Chong Li - Chong Li is a co-founder of Nakamoto & Turing Labs, Inc. He is also chief architect and head ofresearch at Canonchain Networks. Since 2016, Dr. Li is an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Prior to that, he was a researcher at Qualcomm Research, working on 4G LTE and 5G systems design. Dr. Li received a Ph.D degree from Iowa State University and a B.E degree from Harbin Institute of Technology, both in Electrical Engineering.  He is a holder of 200+ international and U.S. patents (granted and pending). Dr. Li has published many high influential papers on top-ranking journals, including Proceedings of the IEEE, IEEE Trans. on Information Theory, IEEE Communications Magazine, Automatica, etc. He has also served as reviewer and technical program committee for most prestigious journals and conferences in communications and control society. He is the author of the book "Reinforcement Learning for Cyber-physical Systems" (Taylor & Francis CRC press). Chong Li has broad research interests including information theory, machine learning, blockchain, networked control and communication, PYH/MAC system design for advance telecommunication technologies (5G and beyond) Dr. Joel Park - Dr. Joel Park is a board-certified emergency medicine physician with expertise in data science and machine learning in the healthcare sector. He is a Clinician – Data Scientist at Symphony Medical and Chainhaus and an assistant program director for a Montefiore-affiliated hospital, St. John’s Riverside Hospital emergency medicine residency in Yonkers, NY. Dr. Park earned his medical degree at Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School and completed his residency at New York Presbyterian – Universities of Columbia and Cornell. Dr. Park’s responsibilities include utilizing data science and machine learning algorithms for operational and clinical data with the goals of implementing changes from data insight. He performs exploratory data analysis and predictive modeling for emergency medicine department operations including work on patient boarding, surge protocols, and ED metrics. Dr. Park is participating with the MIT Critical Data team in international hackathons and will be helping organize a New York City-based hackathon with MIT and NYU in May 2019. Walter Perry - Walter Perry is trained in Semantics and Classics (BA Columbia College 1974--Ancient Greek; PhD Trinity College Dublin 1978--Classical Philology) and Financial Analysis (Wharton School, Securities Industry Institute Diploma 1982). He founded Fiduciary Automation in 1984 to better understand and to solve problems in financial markets compliance by turning regulations into executable code. Over the ensuing 35 years he has built four database engines to solve the hard problems in parsing data, identifying its substantive attributes, and transacting in distributed environments: distributeR! (1985), a radically-decentralized transaction processor; demokritos (1998), an xml-based semantic synthesis engine; IpsaRe (2008), a truly decentralized distributed ledger system implementing the Triple Entry Accounting paradigm; and The Graph of Transactions (2015), a graph processor which re-thinks the premises of data and transactions, based on a graph-based, rather than document-based data model. Today's talk presents the lessons of 35 years inquiry into what data is (and is not), where value can be specifically identified and measured in data, and how that value can be the basis ot transactions. Waleed Nasir - Waleed currently heads a technology innovation lab, VirtualForce.io, that incubates next generation technology products. He is aimed at solving complex business problems through deep tech and digital transformation in areas like Healthcare, Artificial Intellgience, FinTech and Blockchain. In the past, he led the design and engineering at an Ad-Tech company (Freewheel Media), which was acquired by Comcast for $350M. After working on a handful of ventures, he now spends a lot of time mentoring students and startups around design thinking, product engineering and venture building Waleed has an MBA from Yale University, MS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore.
