Create an Awesome Tabletop Game!
GAMESMASH - The Game Design & Fabrication Challenge is a hackathon-style event where you and a team compete against other teams to create and produce the best tabletop game that you can given limited time and surprise constraints!
Co-presented by Ultimaker and MakerOS, GAMESMASH will be two days of teams of 3 - 6 people designing and making a tabletop game at Fat Cat Fab Lab, a makerspace located in the West Village neighborhood of New York, NY. With a number of fabrication methods at your disposal including 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, and CNC milling, you'll have a wide range of directions to go in. But don't get too comfy - we'll be throwing some curveballs at you in the form of what tools or materials you need to use to get the job done!
Once all is said and done, you'll join your other teams and guests for Playtesting Night, where your game will be tested by a panel of judges who are game designers or experts themselves. Prizes will be awarded for Best Design, Best Mechanics, and Best In Play, with the latter team receiving a brand-new Ultimaker 3D Printer! No matter what happens, it'll be a fun time and everyone will get to keep the games they make!
GAMESMASH will take place at Fat Cat Fab Lab on August 13th and 14th, but you'll be able to work on your game in your own time up until Playtesting Night on August 18th, starting at 5 PM. If you are a member of a team you DO NOT need to get tickets to Playtesting Night, but if you just want to come check out the games others have made you can find those tickets here.
NOTE TO PARTICIPANTS: When signing up, you'll have the option of making a team page and inviting others to join by clicking "Create a Team" above. Please remember that whether you choose to sign up individually or as a team, all team members must pay the entry fee. Signups will close on August 11th at 6 PM, so sign up soon!
