Garage48 Circular Economy 2017
Garage48 Circular Economy is a hackathon devoted to finding eco-innovative solutions - action towards the sustainable future and growth.
This event is organised in collaboration with Estonian Ministry of the Environment, financed by European Union European Regional Development Fund.
Taking place from 6-8 October, 2017, at the Spring HUB in Tallinn, Estonia, the hackathon awaits DEVELOPERS, DESIGNERS, MARKETERS and FIELD EXPERTS with big hearts and bright ideas to work together and find new and innovative solutions for transition to circular economy through eco-innovation. If You want to make the world a better place, then this hackathon is for YOU!
Environmental problems are complex and integrated to everyday production and consumption patterns and value chains. So the solutions have to be “out of the box” for the already developed patterns to change.
Let’s dream and discuss solutions in following relevant areas:
* Implementing circular economy principles in businesses and services
Secondary raw material use, creating new material cycles, re-use schemes, upcycling
* Eco-innovative and circular solutions for production and business models
Durable products that are easy to repair and disassemble, reducing hazardous chemicals and substances in products
* Circular and nature based solutions for smart local development planning
Green procurement, ICT use in planning city development, using blue and green infrastructure for smart planning
* Reducing packaging waste and improving plastics recycling
Using reusable packaging, finding alternatives for plastics, using plastics more effectively for recycling
* Product transparency about product material and hazardous substances contents
Information of materials and chemicals especially for electronics, textiles, plastics
* Sustainable consumption behaviour
Ways of compiling and sharing environmental and chemicals information for consumer decisions
Central to achieving the goals of the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement is the redesign of EU activities in a smart, resource efficient and innovative way, while reducing impacts on the environment. The EU has committed itself to play the role of a frontrunner in the actions towards circular economy and a contributor to the achievement of Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Eco-innovation is one of the key enabling instruments in achieving these goals. It addresses circular economy and SDGs from a solution-oriented perspectiveand puts a way forward for a cleaner environment, economic growth, healthy lives and social well-being.
What is Garage48 about?
Garage48 is a weekend long intensive development event to work out innovative technological solutions. In 48 hours, participants turn their ideas into working prototypes. A Garage48 event is a mixture of a hackathon and an exercise from a bootstrapper's bible. With origins from Estonia & the Silicon Valley, Garage48 events evolved being the first of its kind events in rapidly developing tech countries: Ukraine, Latvia, Belarus, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya & elsewhere. The aim of Garage48 is to bring innovative ideas and new startups into life.
How does Garage48 work?
- The event begins on the Friday night with pitching ideas and forming teams.
- Experienced technical mentors and field experts guide the teams towards better solutions and working prototypes over the weekend.
- Sunday evening the event ends with presenting prototypes and selecting winners. Although, everyone is a winner after making many new contacts, crazy progress and learning a lot over the weekend.
