Global Game Jam® 2018 with OSTC and 1212 Gaming

Organized by JLR Oregon Software Technology Center

Jam in Portland to Create Amazing New Games

The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is the growth of an idea that in today’s heavily connected world, we could come together, be creative, share experiences and express ourselves in a multitude of ways using video games – it is very universal. The weekend stirs a global creative buzz in games, while at the same time exploring the process of development, be it programming, iterative design, narrative exploration or artistic expression. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. The GGJ encourages people with all kinds of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity.

Our hosts are the Jaguar Land Rover Oregon Software Technology Center (OSTC) with Mike and Joe from 1212 Gaming.

For more details of jamming in PDX, check out PiG Squad's jam site as they are the original jam crew in PDX.  Since they are overbooked, we've decided to open our space and can accommodate about 30 - 35 comfortably.  We will join PiGSquad's stream from the Art Institute throughout the weekend and will be forwarding the details of this new site to their waitlist.

We plan to have the facility open/accessible for non-JLR employee jammers for a minimum time window of 10am to midnight.  We have 24hr security on site but will need the host to be onsite or nearby during open access hours due to facility usage policy.  You will be required to sign in at our security desk and wear your nametag while on site.  JLR Employees may access the facility whenever their badge allows and do not need to register but please forward your intent to participate to Mike Bibeau.

The venue has plenty of tables and chairs, a refrigerator, a microwave, coffee, dishes, Wi-Fi, and power outlets. Please bring your own computers, food, and any other supplies you might need.  We may be able to set up some extra machines in the rooms but that isn't confirmed so do bring your own laptops.  We have large screen walls and the ability to route displays from your computer to any of them to show off your progress.  We will also have plenty of whiteboards and collaborative spaces.  The break area has pinball, a MAME cabinet and televisions and we plan to pool funds during the event to order food onsite, but it's not currently preplanned.  There are food venues nearby and a Safeway a couple blocks away.  There are also several paid parking lots located nearby, but it's best not to drive while sleep-deprived. Try arranging a ride home, use mass transit, or maybe take a cab.

AT JAGUAR LAND ROVER WE'RE ADVANCING INNOVATION FOR THE ENTIRE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY.

Space is limited. Reservations will be required for each person except OSTC employees. Please let us know if you need to cancel.

Participants must abide by the Global Game Jam Code of Conduct.
