The Global Water Hackathon is aimed at fighting water scarcity that the modern world currently faces.
We never know the worth of water till the well is dry - Thomas Fuller
71 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water, over 96 percent of which is in the oceans.
But everywhere you look, from Mexico City to San Francisco, Cape Town to Bangalore, Jakarta to London, there is an acute shortage of water - with these cities likely to run out of fresh water in a few years.
The problems faced, though, are distinct in each part of the world. While Africa faces water scarcity and drought, New York faces quality issues. Similarly, while Latin America faces acute water scarcity, Asia-Pacific deals with severe water pollution.
The Global Water Hackathon is a community campaign aimed at fighting water scarcity that the modern world currently faces. If not dealt with, by 2025, an estimated 1.8 billion people will live in areas plagued by water scarcity, with two-thirds of the world’s population living in water-stressed regions.
If you believe your ideas can make a difference, participate in the hackathon now!
