GMH @ Harvard Hackathon -- Harvard Global Mental Health’s Hackathon
Come ‘hack’ mental health at Harvard’s Global Mental Health Open Day and connect with like-minded peers and community members! The Mental Health Hackathon kicks off on Thursday April 5th at 5pm where you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of collaborators engaged in global mental health to design solutions to pressing mental health challenges. Content and entrepreneurial experts will serve as mentors to guide participants through ideation, prototyping, testing, and pitching. Technical skills and/or programming experience is not required. We encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines including business, arts, engineering, mathematics, anthropology, computer science, medicine, public health, education, sociology, and others. Please bring your creativity, energy, and enthusiasm!
Tentative Schedule
Thursday, 4/5/18, 5pm – 10pm: The event begins with a kick-off and overview of the Hackathon challenges from our sponsors. This will be followed by team formation and breakout sessions where teams will begin brainstorming, idea refinement and creating mockups. Group mentors and experts will support teams to design and build your ideas. We ask participants to come no later than 5:30pm.
Friday, 4/6/18, 10am – 12pm: Teams will have the opportunity to re-group to further refine their proposal and prepare their pitch. The official GMH Open Day kicks off at 12:30pm and teams can meet throughout the day with their mentors to further develop their project pitches. On Friday evening during Open Day events, teams will have 5 minutes to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. Judges will ask questions, assess based on a defined criteria, and share written feedback.
Saturday, 4/7/18, 12pm: The Hackathon awards presentation will take place during the closing presentations of the GMH Open Day. The winning team as well as semi-finalist will be awarded cash prizes and ongoing mentorship to support efforts in launching their idea.
Note: To ensure the best experience for those who take part in the event, we are limiting the total number of participant slots. We will work to include as many interested participants as possible, but apologize in advance if we cannot accommodate everyone.
