Hack The Climate Business Unusual
Oscar M. Lopez Center in partnership with Redwizard Events Management is staging another Hack the Climate for this year with the subtitle BUSINESS UNUSUAL - Responsible Business Adaptation and its benefits to community resilience, happening on September 16 to 18, 2016 at the 3/F PLDT Innolab, 721 Boni Ave., Mandaluyong City.
OBJECTIVE :
As a non-profit organization principled on climate science, the Oscar M. Lopez Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management mobilizes private sector support for research on climate change adaptation and disaster risk management. It values and recognizes that science and technology have a critical role to play in enhancing the resilience and coping capacity of the various sectors of society whose aspirations to develop sustainably is threatened by climate-related risks and disasters.
It is in this regard that the Center is hosting this year’s Hack the Climate in Manila—to be able to encourage innovative technological solutions in the area of responsible corporate adaptation, with the end goal of promoting climate disaster resilience among the private sector. This hackathon aims to generate innovative solutions to not only promote responsible corporate adaptation, but also to advance the long-term climate disaster resilience of private sector entities so that they can in turn enhance the adaptive capacity of the communities in which they operate.
EXPECTED OUTPUT :
We encourage participants to think big in terms of corporations but come up with solutions that could likewise cascade to the SMEs and communities throughout these corporations’ supply and value chain. By the end of the event, we hope to see different innovation types and forms, including, but not limited to: hardware prototypes, web-based and mobile applications, and models that aim to address sector-specific climate and disaster risks to businesses. It can be an interactive climate-disaster management business simulators or tools, or innovative communication technologies which will ensure business continuity in times of disasters, among others.
This Hackathon encourages technological solutions that are novel and innovative, technically sound, viable, usable and that will create an impact on its target users.
Several prizes are at stake for this hackathon, such as the Best Overall Prototype, Runner-Up, People’s Choice, among others. A special “grant” prize will also be provided by the OML Center, in the form of seed funding that will help move their project forward.
TEAM COMPOSITION :
Multi-disciplinary teams of 2-5 members each. Participants can either join with identified team members or be placed with a team upon joining. Each team will designate one member to demonstrate the prototype for judging.
We highly encourage hardware projects and gamified apps.
REGISTRATION IS FOR FREE!
NOTE :
A mini-conference will be on Sept. 16 from 3:00 to 6:00pm, hackathon will follow right after. Team members or at least a representative should be present during the conference. Extra point will be given per team who are present during the conference.
