Hack the Senses - S01E05 New Senses

What are the limits of human perception? How could we stretch and expand them?

The team that brought you Hack the Brain in 2015 is taking on the senses!

The final episode of our inspirational series will explore the possibility of creating new senses to make perceptible what has hitherto been imperceptile. Hear from some of the pioneers in sensory augmentation, self-cyborgization, and full-body telepresence.

Following this series of events we will organise a hackathon between 24-26 June at FabLab London, where you can try your hand at creating new sensory substitution and augmentation devices.

As always, we'll have drinks and cookies.

Event schedule:

6.30pm - Arrival, registration, drinks and chat

7.00pm - Welcome to Hack the Senses

7.15pm - Scott Novich  - tbc.

7:30pm - Ghislaine Boddington - tbc.

7.45pm - Neil Harbisson - The Future of our Species

This talk will explore how taking an active part in our own biological evolution is no longer a theory, but an option. Becoming technology, instead of using or wearing technology, opens up the possibility of having additional organs and senses beyond the ones confined to our species. By merging ourselves with technology we can become the designers of our own body and perception; and we can increase our survival possibilities on Earth and in outer space. Are we witnessing the renaissance of our species?
