    What is Hack4Heritage? Kingston’s first heritage-themed mixed reality hackathon. Join us for an unforgettable weekend of learning, ideation and creativity. We'll preserve stories as immersive experience, games or apps. Storytelling will become storyliving in virtual reality and augmented reality.  This event is for you! We invite: artists, creatives, storytellers, coders and anyone interested in heritage. You are not required to be an expert on a technology to be part of the hackathon! If you have experience or interest in gaming and/or mixed reality, please join us on this creative exploration. Learn · Presentations and workshops prepare participants with fundamentals for creating an immersive experience/game/app. Create · Design a new story for mixed reality. See ideas move to prototypes on Acer Windows Mixed Reality headsets. Collaborate · Work directly with industry experts: game developers, 3D artists, Microsoft and Unity evangelists. Learn about our shared heritage from subject matter experts and storytellers. Connect · Join a network of friends and colleagues who are passionate about creativity and technology. We have a limited number of Acer Windows Mixed Reality Developer Kits. Register now to reserve yours!  Technology The technology focus for this hackathon is mixed reality. Mixed reality is the spectrum of immersive reality including augmented reality and virtual reality. Basic knowledge of programming in any language/platform is encouraged but not required! Theme The theme is heritage, which includes objects, places, landscapes, knowledge, customs, and everything else that makes cultures unique. We'll design new stories to make the past the present in mixed reality.  Who This event is for you! We invite: practicing artists of any discipline, creatives, storytellers, coders and anyone interested in heritage. You are not required to be an expert on a technology to be part of the hackathon! People from VR|AR|MR|XR and heritage communities in Kingston and beyond, are invited to apply. Venue The hackathon will take place at the St. Lawrence College Conference Centre. St. Lawrence College is located in a beautiful, residential neighborhood right across from Lake Ontario.  Celebrate Your Stories! FAQs   Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? The minimum age for participation in Hack4Heritage is 18.   What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Please refer to hack4heritage.com for the most up to date information on transportation to the event. There is no cost to park in the St. Lawrence College parking lot after 5:00 pm Friday evening, through to the end of the hackathon on Sunday, however no overnight parking is allowed.   What do I bring to the event? Your photo identification, laptop/charger and water bottle. A mouse with a scroll wheel is highly recommended. If you already own a VR|AR|WMR headset, feel free to use it at the hackathon. If you cannot attend the hackathon, we encourage you to transfer your ticket to someone else.  The last day to request a refund through Eventbrite is September 25, 2019. All refunds will be subjected to a $50 cancellation fee. No refunds will be granted after this date and no-shows will not be eligible for refunds or swag. Eventbrite's fee is nonrefundable. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No.   Can I update my registration information? Yes. Please note: by participating in the event, you grant ARtefactVR permission to capture photos and/or videos of the event.
