Hackathon - Puerto Rico Cuenta

This event aims to explore the importance of data for local, civic hackers in addressing social and economic issues on the island and beyond. We want technologists, communities, and advocates to work together to build digital tools that improve people's lives, and the Puerto Rico economy.

The hackathon will provide an opportunity to leverage key census data sets via APIs, promote the usage of census data on the island, and raise awareness of the importance of information and statistics the Census Bureau collects and disseminates. This event continues to build on momentum from the October 2015 National Statistics Day event, held last year in Puerto Rico, which engaged over 365 participants, successfully highlighting the importance of data and statistics.

In addition, this event will serve as a ‘springboard’ leading into ¡Puerto Rico Cuenta!, a Census Bureau data dissemination event on October 14th.Attendance to the 2016 ¡Puerto Rico Cuenta! event is anticipated to reach 300 participants. Those in attendance will represent a broad spectrum of entities who regularly access data, and those who want to, to make data-driven decisions that positively impact the people and communities they support.
