Hackathon: Alternatives to Adani
It is our pleasure to invite you to get into the Christmas spirit and join us for our ‘Alternatives to Adani’ hackathon / workshop hosted at University of Technology Sydney, Monday 18 December 2017 from 1pm to 5pm, (CB11.00.405).
Many staff and students across the University of Technology Sydney feel very strongly that the proposed Adani Group Carmichael coal mine should not go ahead. Click here good infographic about the proposed mine. A key argument raised to justify the Adani project is that it is ‘necessary’ to enable jobs and growth in that region.
We believe that there are many viable alternatives more coal mining to drive sustainable jobs and growth in Australia, and that these should be pursued instead of the Carmichael coal mine. We need to switch to a Plan B.
We are located in the Ultimo-Pyrmont innovation precinct, which is a dynamic innovation and startup ecosystems - a hotbed of future thinking where people are creating the jobs of the future. This is an opportunity for us to show how innovative we are, and make a meaningful contribution to an issue of national and international significance.
Please join staff and students at UTS, along with a panel of experts and leading innovators, to work together to devise and articulate a set of plausible alternatives to Adani, Plan B.
On the day we will be utilising a set of novel methods pioneered in the award winning Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation degree to help you work as part of a small team to devise your team's idea, which will be compiled, made widely available, and shared with key decision makers and stakeholders via a variety of mechanisms and media.
We are bringing together some of the most innovative people in Australia to make a difference - showing our leaders that together, we can solve the biggest challenge facing our economy.
While teams will be formed on the day, there will be pre-hackathon networking drinks and other mechanisms for participants to meet ahead of time and discuss their initial thoughts to potentially form a team.
If you would like to assist us in mobilising the Adani ‘Plan B’ movement, please RSVP via our eventbrite link here. Please note, that all proposed alternatives generated during the Hackathon will be ‘donated’ to the cause of stopping Adani.
We can’t wait to see you there.
