Hackathon Challenge - Alder Hey Challenge - Gaming/Computing Challenge   Launch Day -  1st November 2018 (10am - 5pm) Presentation and final day - 21st November 2018 (2pm - 4pm)  Tech Hub You are invited to participate with this amazing opportunity to work with Alder Hey and a chance to contribute to their up and coming project. Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s Charity are working together to create a world first, hospital-wide patient experience app that has the potential to revolutionise patient care across the NHS. The ‘Alder Play’ app is set to totally transform the experience of children in hospital by bringing comfort, fun, reward and distraction to young patients, whilst also providing vital information to both them and their parents and carers. Alder Play will feature gaming and augmented reality, providing entertainment but also much needed distraction for patients having procedures. A rewards scheme will also be used to encourage interacting with the app and rewarding patients for co-operating with their treatment. It will also have a digital map and detailed 360 images of the hospital enabling patients to explore and familiarise themselves with before their visit. The app has been built by a London based developer ustwo, who have created an amazing interface that is now being tested within Alder Hey. We have been fortunate to have content for the app donated by a number of sponsors, including Hasbro, FACT, Jungle Interactive and StudioWide, a Liverpool based digital company. The Challenge Alder Hey would like to extend the invitation to Edge Hill  Computer Science students.  During the challenge you will work in teams of 5 to produce a range of games for children of primary school age.  Your team will be given the overall theme and categories on the morning of the challenge. A fantastic chance to get involved with an extracurricular project and if successfully picked Alder Hey will embed your game into their APP.   What a fantastic thing to have on your CV!   Open to all from Computer Science.  Places are limited be sure to secure your place via Eventbrite.
