Organized by LexisNexis

How can tax and fintech solutions help the 3 million adults in the UK with mental health problems and financial difficul

In the last few years, the topic of mental health has become much more prominent in conversations about financial wellbeing in the UK. The scale of the problem is very apparent when you review the research by the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute:

  • 11.5 million people have less than £100 in savings to fall back on
  • 22 million people say they don’t know enough to plan for their retirement
  • 5.3 million children do not get a meaningful financial education
  • 46% of people in problem debt also have a mental health problem
  • 18% of people with mental health problems are in problem debt
  • People experiencing mental health problems are 3.5x more likely to be in problem debt than people without mental health problems

LexisNexis is partnering with the CIOT's Low Incomes Tax Reform Group and TaxAid to host a one-day hackathon which will bring together people from diverse backgrounds to work on creative solutions to the issues faced by those who are financially vulnerable.
