#HACKMINING: A 3-day hackathon to innovate the mining industry
Note : This is a commit-to-attend fee - reimbursed after event
Canada Mining Innovation Council presents #HackMining, a 45-hour hackathon that will challenge participants to build innovative solutions for the real-world challenges faced by mining companies. HackMining is an opportunity to build your skills, network with key industry leaders, win valuable prizes and potentially solve pressing social, environmental and business problems. University-level students and start-ups from anywhere in Canada are invited to explore, connect and solve a problem over the course of 45 hours. The winning solution will be presented at the CMIC National Mining Innovation Forum on June 6th, 2017.
Challenges:
Teams will choose ONE of the following two challenges to work on during the hackathon. More information will be provided for each as we get closer to the event:
Challenge 1: Transporting ore and waste from difficult-to-access areas
Challenge 2: Reducing the volume of mine tailings
Prizes:
First Prize: $2,500 Cash, 50 silver maple leaf coins & choose between visit to a mine or lunch with an executive
Second Prize: $1,500 Cash,and either visit or lunch based on the choice from 1st prize winner
Third Prize: $1,000 Cash
Participants: Various mini-contests will take place to engage the participants during the hackathon - There are 50 silver maple leaf coins that will be awarded through such activities.
Teams:
1. One Team will consist of no more than 5 participants
2. Bring your own laptop and charger
3. Work on one of the two challenges identified by sponsors for this hackathon
4. Carry a government issued ID with you - will be required to get access to event on all 3 days.
