Bootstrap startups that tackle two long-standing sustainable energy growth issues on October 27-28, 2018 at 7 Gate Ventures, Vancouver!
This year, BCSEA Vancouver chapter will host it’s inaugural hackathon that will be bringing together a unique mix of people with technical skills and passion for sustainable initiatives!
Our hackathon brings in new ideas to solve the sustainable energy growth problems of 1) engagement and 2) fundraising. It addresses solving the problem of "How to use technology for creating awareness and for financing sustainable energy initiatives?"
The hackathon product must educate users in the field of sustainable energy, and have the capability to raise funds towards a related cause. The goal is advocating & educating for environmental sustainability.
MOTIVATION and GOAL
The idea was born out of the brainstorming sessions by BCSEA Vancouver volunteers. All agreed to the fact that easy access to funding is not only necessary but critical in ensuring success for any initiative, be it entrepreneurship or not-for-profit activities. This is not complete without increasing awareness and engagement, that further create opportunities in sustainable energy initiatives.
We seek to promote and empower initiatives that support sustainable energy adoption. At the same time, the fundraising aspect of the hackathon creates a business case for the ideas (ie. revenue by deducting a service fee). This incentivizes the participants to continue their work on their ideas for starting mission-based businesses.
The goal of the Hackathon is to conclude the weekend with a marketable product to pursue as a business opportunity for the winners. Our goal is for each attendee to come out with new knowledge, connections, and excitement for the next steps in their careers.
