HealthHack is back for 2016!

Want to spend a weekend working with passionate people to solve important problems in health and medical research?

HealthHack is a free event that brings together researchers, healthcare professionals, students, software developers, educators, storytellers, engineers, data geeks and designers to create innovative solutions to interesting problems. The event turns four this year and runs for 48 hours from the 14th -16th October at events in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra. HealthHack 2015 was a huge success, involving over 300 people including participants, problem owners, mentors and judges.

HealthHack is a strictly non-profit, volunteer led initiative and everyone is welcome to attend. Pull a team together to tackle some fascinating problems in medical research. Build your own mashups, data visualizations and apps. HealthHack is about having fun and learning regardless of your level of expertise. From first year university students through to hardened developers, everyone who gets involved will come away from the weekend with something new, whether it be code, content, an idea or new contacts.

We'll have on hand:

- Experts with interesting, health-related problems (problem owners) and mentors from a range of technology backgrounds

- Facilitators to help teams focus and move forward throughout the event

- Copious amounts of power, WIFI, food & caffeine

- A range of developer tools and support throughout the 48 hours

Please note that by attending the event you agree to abide by the Open Knowledge Foundation Australia code of conduct. All code produced during the event must be available on the HealthHack github page prior to judging on the Sunday and released under an open license that allows reuse, commercial use, remixing and redistribution (e.g. GNU or MIT licenses). Please also note that, although the event is open protections exist for background IP brought to the event, and future commercialisation of products remains possible. More information about the event is available at healthhack.com.au

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No - but keep in mind there will be alcohol at the event. If you're under 18, please let the organisers know who you are.

What should I bring?

Bring your laptop (+ charger) and a lot of enthusiasm.

Will there be food?

Yes! Please tell us about your dietary requirements so we can cater for you. We’ll be supplying morning/afternoon tea and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and drinks and some food on Friday and Sunday evening. We’re planning a big lunch on the Saturday and we’ll fill the gaps with pizza or something similar for hungry hackers on Saturday night. Snacks, drinks and caffeine will abound!

Is this the kind of hackathon where we work through the night?

No. Go home, sleep, shower, and take care of yourself. We'll see you in the morning, bright and refreshed.

Can I sort out my team before I arrive?

Yes. But remember, there’ll be people attending from a very broad range of backgrounds. You may find it advantageous to be flexible with your team structure. Give some thought to the advertised problems, ask questions, and talk amongst yourselves.

Where can I contact the organisers with any questions?

E: canberra@healthhack.com.au or TWEET: @okfnau @HealthHackAu or FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/healthhackcbr/
