Applyfor our first ever photo hackathon at the International Center of Photography. ICP has a long tradition of engaged photography in telling the most important stories since it was founded in 1974 by Cornell Capa. The New Media Narratives Program continues this tradition in welcoming creative visual storytellers from many disciplines and artistic practices. Registration is free and ongoing, but spots are limited.

Who?

Are you interested in telling stories differently, then sign up as a content creator, designer, technologist, innovator and/or creative. Teams and individuals are welcome to apply. We will assemble teams from our applicants based on your applications and conform with you a week before the event.

What is #hackthephoto?

#hackthephoto is a 24hr challenge designed to push innovation in the photography and ever changing media landscape. It’s all about connecting creative and ambitious minds with the necessary tools to foster collaboration.

Who can attend?

Photographers, Filmmakers, Artists, Tech developers, UI/UX designers, animators, storytellers, enthusiasts, professionals, students, and all that want to spend a weekend creating solutions with interactive, VR, mobile platforms and other immersive technologies. We welcome experienced designers, programmers, entrepreneurs, and artists as well as total beginners eager to join a team.

How much does it cost to attend?

Hackathon admission is FREE! This includes food, drinks, and some awesome speakers, mentors and judges who will view your final beta projects.

How big are teams?

Teams may contain 4-6 people. Both team applicants and individual applicants are welcome. We will pre assign teams and we will inform you before the event.

Do I need to have a project?

Nope. All are welcome, and we will help you be part of a team.

What can I build?

In addition to our sponsored challenges and API hacks, we strongly encourage ALL hackathon participants come up with creative projects and bring them to life. Final projects will be judged based on creativity, technical use, disruptiveness, and usefulness.

What should I bring?

Please bring a valid ID for admission to ICP. This is a very hands-on and grassroots event. Bring your laptops, mobile phones, whatever inspires you but above all, your energy and enthusiasm. The rest is on us.

Are there prizes for the hack categories?

Yes!! We will announce the prizes soon.

Who owns my project & IP?

The team that develops the project is the owner of the project and IP. We do encourage sharing of code with others in the community or making code open source but it is not required to participate in the event.

How do I know that I have been accepted?

You will receive an email letting you know you have been accepted with instructions.
