impactNPO Charity Hackathon weekend - February 2017

We are pleased to announce our 11th event in Auckland at GridAKL, 101 Pakenham Street West, Auckland. The event runs from  Friday 17th February at 6 pm to 8 pm, and then during both Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm.

To be part of this amazing weekend, all you need to do is get a ticket from Eventbrite.  The weekend starting on Friday 17th February from 6 pm to 8 pm.  You will be volunteering your weekend (Saturday 18th February and Sunday 19th February from 9 am to 5 pm) where we all will be giving back to the community by providing IT solutions to charities.

The four charities you will be helping at this event are:

Tincan Translations

Challenges facing:

TinCan Translations is looking to improve our websites: tincantranslations.com & tincantranslations.org (two connected pages representing the fee-for-service translations side and the community projects the profits are dedicated to).

With limited resources, we have put together a website so that we may begin selling translation services, currently our primary source of income for supporting our community projects.

Donation Manager

Challenges facing:

We need some design work to create a new logo, and also some design and build work to create a new website based on Wordpress. The website needs to be designed properly and built to suit something that is going to convince people to sign up and try the software. The software purpose is to streamline the end of year donation rebate receipt/letter creation process, and is going to be provided for free to any Charity in New Zealand.

Common Knowledge Trust

Challenges facing:

We’re going broke. Between 2000-08 we were selling about $6000/month through birthingbetter.org. Then google made changes we could not keep up with. We’ve been trying to catch up with our mainsite this past year (long story).

We now have a Grants Pro that I manage. We have so many gaps and I’m doing all the work. We solf $250 last month. We have sufficient funds for another 4-5 months.

I’ve spent 45 years developing these skills and working to make the skills accessible to all families for every birth. I’m pretty unsuccessful for lots of reasons that I’m fine explaining.

I’m  presently taking heaps of Lynda.com courses through Auckland library to try to fill in my gaps and turn our situation around.

Fourth Charity Coming Soon

A big thank you to our GridAKL who are sponsoring the venue.

What do you need to bring?

An open mind, a smile and your own computer/laptop. Don’t forget your phone, chargers or any other gadgets that you rely on.

What's in it for me?

First and foremost we aim to help local non-profits. NPOs often have quite a lot of IT challenges. Through this, you may find that you meet new people from different companies or industries, find contacts if you're looking for work, or get to step outside of your comfort zone and learn something new through a weekend project. Or just have a fun weekend working in a team to deliver something that is really useful to the community!

What can we expect as results for the NPOs?

This depends on you, your team and the needs of your chosen NPO! We have run ten successful weekends, and have helped numerous NPOs with websites, IT infrastructure, design, branding, content as well as general advice. For a list of some of our accomplishments, and the NPOs that we have helped during the past weekends, have a look here: http://impactnpo.org

We would love to know about your dietary requirement so please specify whether you would require Veggie, Non-Veg or Gluten free option when you register.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment!

Look forward to seeing you all there :)
