Industry 4.0 Status and Progress in Germany

Dr Jan Polzer, from the German business research institute BFI, will present the application of Industry 4.0 in the German steel industry.

The research institute is a special partner to the German steel industry for applied research focusing on competence in: energy efficiency, industry 4.0 & measurement technology, circular economy and process optimization.

Jan was Head of Department for “Downstream Automation” at the Institute with projects such as
- “Self optimizing production based on Industry 4.0 and digital twins on the example of hot rolling mill to pickling line“,
- "Virtual design of cyber-physical production optimization systems for long products manufacturing“ and
- “Drones for autonomous monitoring of steel plants”.

A further demonstration from our recent hackathon will display the use of IoT satellite systems from Myriota and Fleet Space.
