Innovate Mombasa County Hackathon

    UN Habitat and Swahili Box are giving the young people of Mombasa a chance to make their County and their City beautiful, resilient and the place to be.

    Are you a creative problem solver? are you a patriot? Do you have ideas? Do you have products or services that you feel will help Mombasa achieve these things - then we are looking for you.

    The hackathon will run for two days on May 20th and 21st - Judges will select promising ideas in each category who will undergo a one month coaching, mentorship and product support prior to receiving prizes.

    1. Baraza (Citizen Participation) Sub Category

    • Can you create what is needed for County Stakeholders, Leaders and Citizen participation to talk about critical issues
    •  Can you create what is needed for dissemination of information relevant to citizens on funds use, policy making

    2. Jasusi (Security) Sub Category

    • Can you create what is needed for County Security and administration agents  and Community Policing initiatives to communicate to each other effectively
    •  Can you create what is needed for quick emergency response

    3. Hazina (Finance) Sub Category

    • Can you create what the county government needs for procurement, revenue collection and funds management

    4.  Utendakazi (Service Delivery) Sub Category

    • Can you create what is needed for citizens to be aware of costs, quality service charters; report on undelivered or broken service such as water, drainage, garbage collection
    • Can you create what is needed to improve public service in hospitals, schools and research institutions.

    • Can you create what is needed for SMEs to access funds and linkages to institutions and investors

    3. Uwekezaji (Investment) Mombasa

    • Can you create what is needed for local industry opportunities to be exploited and benefit Mombasa people

    4. Ondoa (Traffic) Jam

    • Can you create what is needed for effective transport, communication alerts on barriers
    •  Can you create what is needed for effective port movement of goods to support current actors

    • Can you create what is needed for young people to get education and awareness on issues facing the drug abuse, rehabilitation opportunity
