Inspiring the Next Gen of Female Leaders - Hackathon

Organized by

In the United States, women represent less than 50% of the students graduating from accredited design programs in the US.  The number of women who are AIA members, licensed architects and other engineering and construction industry leaders varies between 15% to 18% of the total.  While the exact percentages is in constant flux, the challenge of losing the large pool of architectural, engineering, and construction industry talent remains the constant.   We are holding a Hackathon to come up with issues that affect women and minorities in design and construction and then working on finding solutions for us to tackle for the rest of this year !!  Bring your brainstorming hats !! Sponsors What is a Hackathon? A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on softwareprojects. Hackathons tend to have a specific focus, which can include the programming language used, the operating system, an application, an API, or the subject and the demographic group of the programmers.  For our design group, we will be translating this technology based session into a brainstorming one with smaller groups with their pens and pads coming up with one problem we would like to tackle and then coming up with a tangible solution we can implement as a group during this year.  Come with your thinking caps and leave inspired to work alongside other leaders in our industry to make it a better place for women in construction/design/engineering.   Details After signing up for this session, we will be emailing everyone an agenda for that evening a few days prior to the event.  As time is super limited, we want to be as efficient as possible in coming up with problems and solutions.  Light pupus and hosted drinks will be available that evening.  Everyone is highly recommended to park at the municipal parking lots nearby.  Please add a note to the organizer when registering if parking directions are requested. Email organizer if you would like to become a sponsor This event is only possible through donors and sponsors !! Please consider donating !!
