Intro to Computer Vision & Neural Nets!
Description:
Artificial intelligence, deep learning, computer vision, and several other exciting data science fields all share a common history rooted in the construction of modern-day neural networks. We will take a look at the history of computer vision and in turn, better understand neural networks themselves and what makes them so powerful.
Our journey starts in 1943 and carries us all the way to the present day. We will even explore what you should expect to see more of in 2019 and beyond! This talk was meant to have something for everyone! The talk itself will primarily stay focused on the conceptual aspects of neural networks with only brief sections of code and math. However, there is also an accompanying repo that will include links to all the highlighted whitepapers and sample implementations in PyTorch.
This will be the first big data science event of 2019 so feel free to come at 6 to chat and even grab a cocktail at the Larry inside Galvanize. We will be in the Galvanize Amphitheater.

Speaker:
Chris Huie (https://www.linkedin.com/in/phoenixtechnerd/) is the Galvanize Phoenix evangelist. You can usually find him around town at local meetups or working the overnight shift at hackathons. When he isn't supporting the Phoenix dev and data science communities you can usually find him chilling with his English Bulldog writing Python. Neural networks and specifically deep RL are his jam!!
About Galvanize:
Galvanize is a premier institution for learning software engineering and data science in Phoenix and technical cities across the country. We immerse our students in full-time and part-time education for those looking to get into the software engineering or data science fields. Prior knowledge and effort on your part are expected but as a technology community, we are truly here to support you on your journey to learn :-)
