IOT & Security Blockchain Hackathon #T-LabsHACK @Create33 in Seattle

Hello Fellow hackers! 

The Blockchain Society together with Telekom Innovation Laboratories (T- Labs) presents the #T-LabsHACK! T-Labs is the research and innovation unit of Deutsche Telekom, mother company of T-Mobile US. Learn more about T-Labs: https://laboratories.telekom.com/

What is the #T-LabsHACK you may ask? Well, with the increasing popularity of blockchain technology in the industry today, there comes a desire to always be ahead of the curve; with this event, we will bring you up to speed on some of the hottest tech to hit the blockchain space, which you can then use directly in your Hackathon projects to win great prizes!

A Learnathon will be included with a workshop that will introduce hashstaX. To learn more about hashstaX check out this article.

The hackathon will be held at Create33 which is a startup hub, where budding entrepreneurs can learn from mentors and network with peers. It’s the brainchild of Madrona Venture Group, one of the largest venture capital firms in the Pacific Northwest.

Teams

We suggest teams of no more than 6 individuals. You can organize teams prior to the event, and we will be sending around a teams signup form on the day of the Hackathon.

Rules

We know some rules are meant to be broken, but you should probably (read: definitely) stick by these:

1. Fresh Code - We all start coding at the same time. It’s cool to work on designs beforehand, digital mockups, open source frameworks, and anything else available to everyone, but keep things within fair limits.

2. Code Review - Winning teams may be subject to a code-review at some point following the event or immediately before winning. This is to ensure that all code used is in fact fresh.

3. Ownership and IP - You own your IP and whatever you create. Simple as that.

4. Team Size - No more than five people.

5. Submissions - More info at the event. You’ll receive an email with instructions on how to do just that.

6. Demos - You’ll have 10 minutes to demo the functionality of your project and talk through your idea, and 1 minute for Q&A from judges.

How is the hackathon judged?
Projects will be judged based on the following criteria:

• Technical Deployment - 25%
• Consumer Centric - 25%
• Usefulness - 25%
• Innovation - 25%

Judges Include:

Alexander Renz has been involved in the Internet of Things (IoT) since its humble beginnings at the MIT Auto-ID Center, where Kevin Ashton coined the term in 1999. He is interested in exploring applications and new business models in IoT and the machine-to-machine economy. He is interested in applications across industries, even though his focus over the last few years has been on the future of mobility including connected and autonomous vehicles, shared and electric mobility as well as urban mobility and smart cities. Alex is an advisor to the IOTA foundation, a next generation blockchainless architecture based on a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) that promises infinite scalability and zero transaction fees.

Precia Carraway started as an entrepreneur in her late teens, continuing to explore and deploy disruptive innovations in emerging technology verticals. Her mechanical engineering training allowed her to wear many hats: software architect, system engineering, product management and general Swiss army knife deploying domestic and EMEA market smart-home, -city, -car product lines. Her previous position crossed B2C, B2B, B2G vehicle OEM strategic alliances and partnership collaborations. These days you can find her in the autonomous vehicle or drone space, watching the market, placing technology bets, nurturing networks, and speaking to the community at large, encouraging investments in frontier technologies. To break out of her echo chamber, you can find her leading Habitat for Humanity volunteers, riding mountain bikes or sailing the deep blue seas any given weekend.

Chris Jones is a long-time entrepreneur and an expert in strategy, product marketing and user acquisition. He is adept at translating complex, technical features and functionalities into easy to understand concepts. Previously Chris held executive roles with adidas America, Mattel and Boost Mobile. Currently he is the President of Dragonscale, the Dragonchain incubator project and Co-founder of the inaugural Blockchain Seattle 2018 Conference held on September 10-11th. Chris is an evangelist for blockchain technology and the people and projects here in the Pacific NW. In addition, he has consulted other blockchain & technology companies including Storm, a gamified microtasks platform and Sirqul, a leader in the IoT space. He holds a B.S.B.A. from Georgetown University and an MBA from Northwestern University.

John Calian is a Senior Vice President at Deutsche Telekom AG, and the Head of the Telekom Innovation Laboratories (T-Labs) in Berlin, a group of some 300 experts & scientists (+ entrepreneurs) from a variety of disciplines, from more than 25 nations all working together at T-Labs. Additionally, John co-founded and leads all product development for the T-Labs Blockchain Group, a team dedicated to decentralization research and development. In this dual role, John is responsible for developing and leading innovation topics, including blockchain strategies and initiatives, machine learning techniques and customer experiences, for Deutsche Telekom and its partners. Prior to joining T-Labs, John held numerous technology leadership roles and was the founder and COO of multiple startup software firms in the Seattle area. Mr. Calian holds an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Washington.
