Junior & Me Hackathon

Can we all agree that sometimes kids just have amazing ideas?

What would happen if we combine those inspirations with the experiences and knowledge you have as a parent, guardian, mentor?

What better way to spend the weekend (which happens to be fathers' day weekend!) with your child by learning and growing together.  When different generations come together, we can find new and potentially better ways to approach old problems.  And with the right mindset and skillsets, these ideas can come to life!

Come join us at our guided Parent-and-Child Hackathon to explore the possibilities of the future, get to know your child even better, and further expand your mind and skills.

The Challenge:

Inspired by the National Museum of Singapore's current exhibit "The More We Get Together: Singapore's Playgrounds 1930 - 2030"(http://nationalmuseum.sg/our-exhibitions/exhibition-list/singapores-playgrounds) and its surrounding programs, we would like to challenge teams to explore the role playgrounds play in society and seek the possible ways it might evolve.

What's a Hackathon?

A hackathon is an event or competition where people with different skills and backgrounds get together for a short duration (usually 1 to 3 days) to quickly put together a solution to tackle a select problem/challenge.  The solution is often a 'hack'--- or a quick prototype --- but it is innovative and gets the job done.

The Junior & Me Hackathon will in principle follow the same model, but allow for some guided exercises to facilitate ideation as well as some hands-on practice to explore different ways to prototype (a product sample), including computer-assisted design (CAD) systems.

At the end, the teams will present their solutions and we will have a friendly competition to see who's solution best addressed the challenge.

What you need:

  • A Curious Mind

  • A laptop and ideally a mouse
