Knoxville City Hackathon

Organized by

The Knoxville Entrepreneur Center and KnoxDevs have partnered to hold the Inaugural Knoxville City Hackathon (KCH) March 2-3 with the support of great partners to be announced, to host 100 local and regional software developers over the course of a weekend to compete for prizes in building apps, services, products from regional and national companies. In addition to outside companies, the hackathon hopes to attract some teams to create projects using open data available from local gov (City of Knoxville, KnoxMPC, KnoxHMIS, etc.). We’re hoping to have a few members from local gov on hand the first day to put the data in context that can help to steer the purpose of the hackathon project. Fret not, we will provide a collection of datasets and real-world problems for you to start with to minimize your time parsing data and maximize your time building the cool stuff. The hackathon will kick off with coffee and breakfast Saturday, March 2nd at 8 am and run until Sunday at 10 am when submissions of hackathon projects are due. Each group will have the opportunity to present their work in a small group format, with up to 7 projects chosen to present a 10 minute pitch in front a large audience in Scruffy City Hall before the finals for the What's the Big Idea - an entrepreneur-focused event occuring concurrently to the hackathon that weekend. $10 gets you a shirt (design to be unveiled soon) and all meals provided for. Register today to reserve your spot, as there are only 100 spots available. Find more information at knxhx.org   FAQs   Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? You must be 18 or older at the time of the event to participate. This is solely for liability for this event. We would love to hear ideas for next year's event about accomodating high school students younger than 18. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? State Street parking garage is two blocks away and probably your closest garage to the event at Pyxl. Alternately, the Market Square parking garage, Locust Street, and others are also available. Check the parkopedia app for garage availability. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. Bring your ID and we will check you in at the door. If you could also provide your email receipt on your phone, that may help us speed the check-in process. Also, we'll save some trees this way and keep it digital. Rad. Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable? The easiest thing to do is to cancel your ticket, you will get refunded and that will open a spot for someone else. If it is less than 7 days before the event, we kindly ask you to email us: team at knxhx.org for us to transfer it. In less than 7 days before the event, the ticket is non-refundable.
