UNITING WOMEN TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS FOR BARRIERS IN POLICY, POLITICS & ADVOCACY OF REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS.
Addressing some of today’s most relevant societal challenges can’t be solved by one discipline alone- LYLAS Labs empowers women to come together to solve modern societal and political challenges on interdisciplinary teams. Each team is armed with open data sources and paired with subject matter experts to propose creative solutions and frameworks.
About the Hackathon:
For its inaugural hackathon, LYLAS is partnering with the Flatiron School to host a reproductive rights policy hackathon. The goal is to develop content and prototypes to aide candidates and advocates with the tools they need to understand the policies, opinions, and current state of abortion across the nation.
Information for Participants:
Participants will be organized a week before the event into groups. Each group will be formed by the LYLAS Labs production team to ensure that each team is interdisciplinary and includes a flatiron technical expert. Starter packs will be given to each teams and include: public data sets, lists of reproductive health organization tools that already exist, advice on ideation techniques for team brainstorms and project execution.
Throughout the day, teams will have access to subject matter experts at the event and opportunities for teams to “hack” the issue as well as pressure test their ideas with external experts on the project’s feasibility on real world application. The hackathon will bring ideas that will surely have potential to immediately impact your organizations and its role in the dissemination and public policy education pertaining to women’s rights and our vital upcoming elections.
