There are over 300,000 new cases of Lyme disease each year in the US and it is the fastest spreading vector borne illness in the world. There is no cure for the chronic illness that can result from Lyme infection and no accurate diagnostics.

Sponsored by the Bay Area Lyme Foundation, Lyme Innovation is a partnership between the Dean Center for Tick Borne Illness at Spaulding Rehabilitation Network/Harvard Medical School Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, MIT Hacking Medicine, and Project Lyme. The purpose of Lyme Innovation is to solve critical prevention, diagnostic, and treatment and rehabilitation challenges facing the Lyme disease field, and to encourage diverse researchers to take on these wicked problems.

Join us at the 2017 Lyme Innovation Hackathon and incubate solutions that make Lyme disease
easy to diagnose and simple to cure.

This two-day event will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, October 21 and end at 2:00pm Sunday, October 22. At the end of the weekend, each of the top five teams will be awarded $5,000 in prize money. No prior Lyme disease research experience is necessary. After learning about Lyme disease through lightening speeches, innovative multidisciplinary teams will form and gather to propel the Lyme disease field to the next level. Each team will have access to an extensive group of mentors, each of whom is a nationally recognized leader in Lyme research or treatment, and will work on an important project that addresses one of the top Lyme disease challenges.

Participants in the 2017 Lyme Innovation Hackathon will focus on developing solutions in the following critical areas:

► the incubation of an accurate diagnostic that is Federally approved for use & detects Bb infections/exposure with 90%+ accuracy for all stages of Lyme disease

► the development of effective medical treatment options for late-stage Lyme/PTLDS that lead to functional cures in patients with symptoms for greater than 12 months

Event updates and logistics will be posted on our Facebook page and www.lymeinnovation.org.
