We’re taking it upon ourselves to accelerate innovation and calling on you to bring in your brilliant ideas to boost the marine industry.  

Our vision is a world where marine resources and activities are sustained, advanced, managed and developed for the benefit of humanity. To this end, we are bringing together marine engineers, scientists, technologists and students into one energy-packed event.

Why MarineTech Hackathon?


This event offers a unique opportunity to launch disruptive ideas to advance marine technology and ocean exploration. 
 

Offshore renewable energy, coastal infrastructure and marine robotics will be crucial if we are to achieve a future sustainable blue economy.  With the MarineTech Hackathon, we aim to gather the UK marine community in order to promote the scientific development of marine engineering, science and technology, providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas and practices and upholding the standards and knowledge of marine professionals worldwide. 

 Who will be involved in the hackathon?

…and many others involved in marine science, engineering and technology disciplines and applications. 

 

The Challenge:  

Your challenges will be based around the following objectives:  

  • Technologies that address monitoring, warning, and remediation issues. 
  • Investigation of current technologies for surveillance purposes and predicting fishing effort. 
  • Producing new technology roadmaps using – Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, 5G, Robotic Process Automation, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Cloud Office and IT Infrastructure Services. 

Full challenge details will be published six weeks prior to the event. 

 

The Target: 

This hackathon will address real-world challenges surrounding the maritime industry. Developers, designers and domain experts will convene for 12 hours of creating winning ideas and building prototypes. Participants will have access to top maritime industry and tech executives, investors and entrepreneurs so they can effectively work on building products for commercially viable solutions. 

The mission of this hackathon is to elevate the marine industry as an engine for innovation and technology that will move the UK industry forward. MarineTech Hackathon will spur development and serve as a bridge between the Tech, Maritime, Logistics, and Finance communities to connect startups and innovative individuals to maritime interests within the country. 

 

Our Calling: 

We aim to bring together teams of smart thinkers with various backgrounds and skill sets to look at some of Maritime’s biggest challenges from a fresh perspective. 

As always, we’ll be welcoming people from all disciplines, including software developers, engineers, marine biologists, physicists, data scientists and industry professionals to get together and tackle the issues.  

MarineTech Hackathon is open to all, whether you are a student, just starting out in your career, an experienced professional or just someone who is interested in marine engineering, science or technology or our events. 

 

How to Enter: 

Registration is now open and closes 24th June, 2020. To validate your entry, send us an email at Hello@talent-hack.uk expressing your interest and you will receive a welcome email with all the details of what to expect and the resources you will need to ready to go on the day of the event. We will also provide you with a digital marketing pack so that you can promote your involvement.
 

Hackathon Rules: 

Details of the Hackathon will be made available the day before the event to ensure a level playing field for all participants! You will also receive all channel and mentor information in an email 48 hours before the event. In the mean time we’d love the opportunity to engage with you and get to know you better! Signing Up:  

The event is open to anyone who resides in UK. We want to have multi-functional teams of 4 to 6 people working together. 

Once your teams are formed, register your team by emailing us the names of your team member and organisation at hello@talent-hack.uk. Note: You can register more than one team per company. 

 

Event Details/Agenda: 

 

Start & Finish: The event will begin on 26th June at 7pm and run until 28th June, 4pm. 

Kick-Off: The team at Talent Hack will kick off with a presentation briefly explaining what we’re all about and give you some inspiration for challenges you will work on. 

Teams: You will be working in teams of 4-6 people. As mentioned, the aim is to build solutions as teams, so make sure everyone in your team can contribute in a way that allows you to present a complete solution/product at the end of the day. 

Suggested Team Roles: Ideation person. Designer. Developer. Domain Expert. Business Expert. Marketing Guru. 

Challenge: Choose one of our challenges that specifically excites the team; be creative, innovative and put yourself in the shoes of your target audience to give them the best experience possible! 

Presentation: Every team will present the hack they’ve built with a demo (if time allows) the same afternoon in the last hour of the event. The TH team along with their judging panel will ask questions on solutions and products and at the end of the day, decide on the winning team. 

Winners: The winning team will have an original idea, that’s both innovative and customer focused, as well as well-executed. 

Logistics: All you need is your laptop lots of enthusiasm! 

Prizes: The point of this hackathon is to come together with other like-minded professionals to work on solving the most pressing problems facing the marine sector today.

    Connection to problem set: how did the team narrow down the problem? Did they understand what they were solving?  KENT THEN 5TH THEN  HACK –  BRINGING HEALTHCARE N COMMUNITY

    Creativity and originality of solving/ creating a MVP

    Viability and timing- how realistic is the solution? Is the industry ready to tackle/ address this now?
