MBKHack 2016 - Oakland
Join us for the 3rd anual Hackathon Academy - Oakland!
In 2014, Qeyno Labs launched the first hackathon for Black Male Achievement ever, in Oakland, California.
At Qeyno Labs, our mission is to transform children's lives and empower them through education, social innovation, and technology. We have made "hackathon" a household word in hundreds of homes, and MSNBC produced a mini-documentary that has garnered national attention to our work.
Young women attending the majority-male hackathon will have encouraging and supportive mentors through MSK, and will be building apps that they feel will improve the life outcomes of young men of color, but through their genius, their leadership, and their designs.
Kalimah Priforce believes that, “It is only by including young women and trans youth, do we get closer to an inclusive masculinity for the 21st century.”
At the end of the hackathon, participants will walk away with a sense of accomplishment, inspired by experiencing what is possible when brilliant people get together to solve problems.
Wait, what is a hackathon?
Hackathons gather together technologists (coders), artist (designers), problem solvers (innovators) and industry/area experts (students, teachers, parents, activist, community leaders, YOU) to build a web or mobile app that can change the world, create a business, or both!
Hmmm, what if I don't know how to code?
While we're calling it a hackathon, we're explicitly welcoming everyone, regardless of their skill or talent. At our hackathon, we are combining professionals, mentors and youth to collaborate on building technological tools that can transform their hoods.
