'Meet the Stemettes' in Dublin - November 2015

Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Stemettes invite you to a celebration of women in STEM. The event will be hosted by Events Stemette, Charlotte Pascual.  What? Why? Despite the thousands of women already working in Ireland's Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) fields, there exists a lack of young talent in the pipeline. Join us to hear from a diverse panel as they share their somewhat surprising career paths and provide tips to those students who are contemplating their future careers and job options. The event promises to provide a fantastic opportunity to meet and network with STEM professionals and discover new opportunities over light refreshments in a relaxed atmosphere.  Who? The event is aimed at girls and students of all ages. Under 16's must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. When? 11 – 2pm, Saturday, 7 November 2015 Where?  Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Central Park Block D, Leopardstown, Dublin 18 Directions: By car: From the city centre: Head northeast on St Stephen’s Green/R138 toward Hume St, Slight right onto Merrion Row/R138, Slight right onto Pembroke Street Lower/R138, Turn left onto Leeson Street Lower/R138, Continue onto Stillorgan Rd/N11/N31 for 1.8km, Turn right onto Brewery Rd/N31, At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Leopardstown Rd/N31/R113. From Dublin airport: Drive towards the M1/Dublin road, Take the first exit southbound, remain on the M50 until you reach junction 14 (approximately 30 mins). By public transport: Luas Green Line: The “Central Park” LUAS green line stop is a two-minute walk from the office. The green line goes from St. Stephen’s Green (city centre) to Brides Glen. The journey takes about 20 minutes from the city centre. Our Impressive panel will include: Laura Tobin - an experimental physics graduate, a graduate of the TCD-UCD Innovation Academy and is currently a PhD candidate in optical engineering at University College Dublin.   Elle Loughran  - Elle Loughran is a 6th Year student who was recently appointed to the Youth Panel of the British Science Association and named a global youth leader in nanotech by the Emerging Technologies Hub. She participated in Outbox Incubator over the summer and blogs about life, education and STEM at frizzyroselle.eu Prof Christine Loscher - Prof Christine Loscher completed her PhD in Immunology at NUI, Maynooth in 2000 and was awarded a Health Research Board Fellowship to pursue her postdoctoral studies at Trinity College Dublin. She leads the Immunomodulation Research Group at DCU. She holds several leadership roles in DCU including Director of the Health Technologies Research. In 2014 she was named in Silicon Republics top 100 Women in STEM and currently serves on the National Committee for Athena SWAN in Ireland. Dr Shannon Chance - Dr. Shannon Chance is a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Dublin Institute of Technology, following 15 years at Hampton University where she was a tenured Professor of Architecture. Shannon has also taught as an adjunct professor at The College of William and Mary and has served as a lecturer at Virginia Tech. Shannon is a licensed architect with two degrees in architecture from Virginia Tech and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from William and Mary.  Andrea Fagan - Andrea was originally a Natural Science graduate from Trinity College Dublin. Re-skilled in software development, Andrea now works as a python developer on the Counterparty Credit Risk Technology team in Bank of America. She is also involved in the Python Ireland organisation, responsible for the annual PyCon event and Meetups throughout the year. Andreea Popa - Andreea is a Software Engineer at Microsoft. She has been working for Microsoft for one year and is part of the Office team. She studied in Germany at an international university and then moved to Dublin. While in college Andreea worked as a Teaching Assistant for two years. She enjoys diversity and is very passionate about attracting and retaining women in tech. Dr Shirley Gallagher - Shirley is an Analytical chemist with expertise in environment and sustainability. She studied science and holds a PhD from the University of Ulster. Dr Gallagher has worked in scientific roles in a number of different jobs. She has refocused the learned society Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland and co-founded Enviro Skillnet in 2007. She is self-employed and has been involved with a number of ‘green’ projects over the past fifteen years.
