To celebrate EU Code Week (15th-22nd October), we’re inviting young people from across the Midwest (and beyond) to join us for a day of technology based fun in Limerick Institute of Technology. We’re looking for 1024 kids to take part. We’ll have coding workshops, demos from companies (big and small), talks and a hackathon. And all this FREE!
We will be running beginner and intermediate Scratch workshops for the younger attendees along with WebDev and hardware workshops for the older age groups. These are aimed across the skill levels so both existing attendees and those that might have a passing interest will find a workshop to suit on the day.
Hackathon & Scratchathon:
There are two competitions taking place on the day. Please note participants in these will be unable to do any workshops but will have time for talks and showcase. All teams will need at least one laptop
The Hackathon (aged 12+) is a competition for teams of 3 kids who have some experience of Web Design, App Development or other coding skills. Teams will be given a social problem at the start of the day and must come up with a solution by the end of the day to build an program, app or website that solves this problem
The Scratchathon is a junior hackathon for teams of 2 kids who have experience using the Scratch programming tool. Teams will be given a theme and have to create a game or animation using Scratch based around the team.
Workshops:
We will have four sessions over the day at 10am, 11.30am, 2pm & 3.30pm . At the next stage, you will be able to select a timeslot followed by a workshop per person from the selection listed below. If your required workshop is greyed out in the session you are booking this means it is booked out and you will need to try another session.
