MISLA-Made In South LA- startup HOOD HACKS + Community Coding Night

Organized by

Learn to hack the hood with “HOOD HACKS” every Wednesday night at an undisclosed South LA location, beginning Feb 28th, 2018. Hosted by Forbes published tech startup entrepreneur Cassie Betts, HOOD HACKS will grant you insider info to what's happening in our community of South LA, from local businesses, to programs and opportunities. At MISLA, we believe one way to battle the ill effects of gentrification is to educate ourselves and to apply our learning in the world of startups, entrepreneurialism and coding.  Tech startups have the ability to generate millions, if not billions of dollars for the economy.  The average starting pay for a high-level programmer is $100k+.  By focusing on startups and technology training, our communities can not only survive, but thrive in this technological era. HOOD HACKS will inform the community about organizations and resources devoted to aid the entrepreneurs and startups of South Los Angeles, followed by JavaScript coding battles in which Young and Old can learn JavaScript introductory coding through fun, competitive battles and challenges.   ================================== HOW TO PREPARE FOR CODING BATTLE: ================================== Download this Javascript For Kids book (great for adults as well) and read up to chapter 3. We will be learning & battling concepts from chapters 1 & 2 as well as other basic principles learned at the beginning of the workshop.  Sign up for Kahoot! and download the app to your mobile device such as phone or tablet, we will use this for javascript battles! =============== WHAT TO BRING: =============== Your laptop and charger (though if you do not have a laptop, don't worry as you can share with someone else for pair programming) Portable Whiteboard if you have one, as well as whiteboard markers and erasers Pens, pencils, paper Your parent or guardian if you're a kid. :) Money for food, snacks, or drinks from our sponsoring location.
