Mobilise! is a mini-festival exploring mobile music making and new sound practice. The event sees an incredible line-up of the world’s mobile music masters descending on De Montfort University’s Music, Technology and Innovation Research Centre for two days of workshops, hands-on programming, discussions, presentations and performances. In association with DMU cultural eXchanges festival 2017.


Hackathon Tuesday 28 February, 10 am – 4pm

A chance to work with IRCAM’s specialised team from Paris, learning how to make a personalised mobile phone music application with a few lines of code. IRCAM is the world's leading research centre dedicated to cutting-edge electronic music technology, and this will be the first time their team have ever appeared in the UK outside London. No programming knowledge is required, just a curiosity to be part of a collective Smartphone experience.


Conference Wednesday 1 March, 10 am – 5pm, PACE Building

Discussions, presentations and demos featuring artists, academics, writers, developers and professionals exploring music, mobility and new sonic arts practice.

Frauke Behrendt (University of Brighton, UK) Sound, mobility and the Internet of Things.

Peter Sinclair/Elena Biserna (Locus Sonus, FR) Exploring, moving and mixing sound environments.

Jakob Haq (SWE) YouTube vlogger and mobile musician HaQ AttaQ.

Aneek Thapar (Ninja Tune, UK) Developing the Ninja Jamm app, workflow issues + some cool tips and tricks.


Performance Wednesday 1 March, 7pm – 9pm, PACE

Evening concert of mobile music featuring hackathon participants, DMU music tech students and audience. Includes Steve Reich's Piano Phase for prepared piano and smartphones.
