Visa
Visa’s Hackathon Challenge:
Help Visa create a future where consumers, families, or small businesses are able to reach their financial goals using innovative solutions.
Today, nearly 2 billion people are excluded from the financial system - over 26% of the world’s population. They are often poor, rural, and disproportionately female. These individuals manage household and business finances in an informal, cash-based economy, where it is much harder to get services that so many of us might take for granted – things like secure savings, affordable credit, and insurance protection.
Join us to help solve the challenge of financial exclusion. Think about a use-case for the following categories:
- Cash free solutions
- Credit
- Access to Financial Education and Business Skills
- Identification Verification
Using integration of Visa APIs along with other solutions and capabilities, build an app that helps individuals or small businesses use secure, convenient, and affordable payment products or financial services to meet their everyday needs and reach their long-term financial goals.
Together, let’s help over 1 in 4 global citizens thrive and prosper – by innovating a solution to improve their lives, families, economies, ultimately helping people get out of poverty, create wealth, and drive gender equality.

Other than that, almost anything goes and you can use any coding languages or open-source libraries you’d like.
Who Owns the IP?
Participants will own the rights to their work. Sponsoring companies may have their own terms and conditions for proprietary technology or content.
Is there a Participation Agreement?
