NASA Hackathon 2019 for Sustainability

Feustel: https://vimeo.com/289313732 Space Apps - 2019 Video Intro:  https://vimeo.com/293544221 Join us for the 2019 NASA Space Apps Challenge, a global hackathon in which teams work together to address challenges in Earth science and space exploration. Scientists, artists, programmers, students, makers, and anyone with a creative mindset is welcome to participate! Two winning teams from each location will be nominated for global judging. Those teams will create a short video demo for their project, and judges from NASA will select a handful of global finalists from hundreds of submissions. The global winner will receive a trip to NASA Kennedy Space Center for a rocket launch! Choose a challenge here : spaceappschallenge.org DAY 1: October 18th. Find a challenge, build a team, get started hacking. Find a challenge: https://2019.spaceappschallenge.org/challenges/ DAY 2: Onsite hacking on October 19th, everyone participating in the hackathon will check in, grab breakfast, set up all required software accounts, learn about the challenges, hear from our sponsors and mentors about the support available during the weekend, form teams, and get ready for a weekend of hacking!  Organizers and volunteers will be on hand to assist with any questions and help with team placement. Technology and science mentors will also be available in person and virtually to float between teams and answer any questions. Before Saturday: Each team will create a team page on spaceappschallenge.org as soon as the team has been formed. We have breakfast. Project submission is at 5pm. Team demos will start shortly after, will be globally livestreamed, and is open for friends and family to attend. Between 4:00pm-6:00pm  we will conclude the first round of demos, select sponsors will present their specially branded awards, and our judges will announce the hackathon first awards! All participant teams submit project pages on spaceappschallenge.org prior to local project presentations.  Workshops by Code Berkeley and Invention Corps of Berkeley. DAY 3: Online hacking continue, submit your work by 2:00PM PST on October 20th. Winners will be announced before midnigh.  Invited Judges: - Kenji Kato: Co-Founder Yorder & TKFO, NASA Principal Research Engineer, hacker, entrepreneur, and podcaster. - Gaspard Duchêne: Associate Research Astronomer and Lecturer, Astronomy Department, UC Berkele. - Dr. Andreas Zoglauer, University of California, Berkeley, Space Sciences Laboratory. Dr. Andreas Zoglauer designed the data analysis package for NASA's COSI telescope, which is now used in areas ranging from homeland security to nuclear medicine, and worked with the data pipeline of a few other NASA missions (COMPTEL, Chandra, NuSTAR, Swift, FERMI). - Michael Wee, Entrepreneur and Angel Investor. Former Investment Partner at Andreessen Horowitz. AI Researcher at Berkeley, MIT, and Harvard. Hackathon organizer. - Spondon Saha, Code Ninja at Airbus UTM - Deepanshu Madan, IEEE senior member, Product Manager at Google - Nick Arnett, principal at 1517 Fund. Nick founded and serves on the board of WayPaver Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing humanity's greatest challenges by enabling lunar settlement. Prior to his work with WayPaver, Nick worked at the Thiel Foundation where he led the growth and development of their community of young visionaries for the Thiel Fellowship program. In lieu of going to college, Nick started a nonprofit at age 18 that studied the development of entrepreneurial ecosystems in mid-sized cities throughout the United States. - Iris Hou, Neema Rashidi at Invention Corps of Berkeley, a non-profit, multidisciplinary organization focused on human-centered design by partnering with professors, graduate students, and companies on specific projects that utilize design thinking to improve existing solutions on poverty, health, environment, and society. As a diverse organization of all skill sets and backgrounds, we are fueled by our individual passions and converge upon those passions to create a holistic organization by continuously prototyping with the goal of empowering ourselves and others.
