Join us for the 2018 NASA Space Apps Challenge, a global hackathon in which teams work together to address challenges in Earth science and space exploration. Scientists, artists, programmers, students, makers, and anyone with a creative mindset is welcome to participate!

Two winning teams from each location will be nominated for global judging. Those teams will create a short video demo for their project, and judges from NASA will select a handful of global finalists from hundreds of submissions. The global winner will receive a trip to NASA Kennedy Space Center for a rocket launch!

On October 20th, everyone participating in the hackathon will check in, grab breakfast, set up all required software accounts, learn about the challenges, hear from our sponsors and mentors about the support available during the weekend, form teams, and get ready for a weekend of hacking! Lunch and mdinner will also be served.

Organizers and volunteers will be on hand to assist with any questions and help with team placement. Technology and science mentors will also be available in person and virtually to float between teams and answer any questions.

Saturday: Each team will create a team page on spaceappschallenge.org as soon as the team has been formed.

Sunday, October 21st we have breakfast and wrap up our projects. Project submission is at noon, followed by lunch. Team demos will start shortly after lunch, will be globally livestreamed, and is open for friends and family to attend.

Around 1 pm we will conclude the demos, select sponsors will present their specially branded awards, and our judges will announce the hackathon winners!

Sunday: All participant teams submit project pages on spaceappschallenge.org prior to local project presentations. You will sign on to your location page, submit the Lead Follow-up and Feedback survey, and select your two global judging nominees.

Judges:

- Kenji Kato: Co-Founder Yorder & TKFO, NASA Principal Research Engineer, hacker, entrepreneur, and podcaster.

Dr. Andreas Zoglauer, University of California, Berkeley, Space Sciences Laboratory. Dr. Andreas Zoglauer designed the data analysis package for NASA's COSI telescope, which is now used in areas ranging from homeland security to nuclear medicine, and worked with the data pipeline of a few other NASA missions (COMPTEL, Chandra, NuSTAR, Swift, FERMI).

Mr. John Duhring was a Founder, Vice President of Business Development, and Director for WAIS Inc., an Internet search engine and Web development pioneer. America Online purchased WAIS in 1995, and John served as VP of Marketing for AOL's Navisoft subsidiary. Prior to WAIS John was Founder and General Manager of SuperMac Software. Prior to that John worked at Apple Computer. John came to Apple from Prentice-Hall, where he developed college textbooks
