Oculus Touch 24hr VR Hackathon
...as part of #vrLAB #TOMtech #TouchHackVR
What: Oculus Rift and Oculus Touch-based 24hr VR hack-a-thon
Where: Old Market Theatre, 11a Upper Market St, Hove. BN3 1AS
When: 9am Thursday 15th Sept > 11:30am Friday 16th Sept
Why: An opportunity for aspiring Virtual Reality developers to get their hands on the latest motion-tracked input controllers from Oculus, the Oculus Touch before launch later this year. Get early access to the devices to understand their capabilities and learn how to develop with them, whilst having fun.
For just over 24hrs you will work in teams of 3-4 together to create fun mini-games that make use of the capacitive, haptic motion-tracked controllers before a judging panel (with judges from Make Real, VR Focus and Unity) on Friday morning will evaluate and chose one team as winners. The winning team will walk away with an Oculus Rift VR headset.
You can be a coder, an artist, a designer or a bit of all three, you just need to make sure your team has enough relevant skills to create a working build in Unity for evaluation.
An Oculus Rift and pair of Oculus Touch controllers will be provided for each team to use during the hackathon as well as an AMD VR-Ready machine - these must be returned to the organisers before leaving! An additional test and evaluation area will be setup to try out your creations with more space during the dev phase. IMPORTANT! You must provide your own Windows-based development hardware!
Food & drink courtesy of Unity will be provided throughout the hackathon to ensure everyone has a good time. Note that the event is an inclusive, accessible event promoting diversity. Any form of harassment will not be tolerated and will see you removed from the hackathon & your team disqualified.
Theme: Mini-game fun
How: Sign-up here with the relevant ticket for your area of expertise. Then email the organiser to list your team members. Each team should have at least one Unity C# developer allocated. If you do not join a team, you will be placed into a random suitable team at the start of the event.
