#peacehack es una iniciativa de International Alert que reúne a tecnólogos, diseñadores, desarrolladores y profesionales de cooperación para pensar y construir soluciones que puedan ayudar a construir la paz. Alert se ha asociado con varios grupos para organizar hacks simultáneos en cinco ciudades de todo el mundo durante el fin de semana del 26 al 27 de septiembre 2015, como parte de su Talking Peace Festival.

Retos, prototipos y premios

El enfoque propuesto para el #peacehackBCN es la paz y la migración. Al principio del hack, profesionales de construcción de paz presentarán varios retos a los que se enfrentan en su trabajo. Puedes leer los retos aquí. Los participantes elegirán un reto y trabajarán (individualmente o en equipo) para construir un prototipo que proponga una solución al reto. Los prototipos serán presentados al final del hack a un tribunal compuesto de profesionales de la tecnología y de la construcción de la paz.

Premio!

El equipo que presente la mejor solución recibirá un viaje para dos personas con todo los gastos pagados al congreso internacional de tecnología y paz Build Peace.

Criterios para juzgar premios

Los prototipos producidos por los desarrolladores serán juzgados de acuerdo a los siguientes criterios:
1. Impacto: ¿La aplicación / proyecto tiene un impacto medible?
2. Experiencia de Usuario y Presentación: ¿Está bien diseñada la aplicación / proyecto? ¿Es simple y fácil de utilizar para los usuarios no técnicos?
3. Sostenibilidad: ¿Qué tan probable es que la aplicación / proyecto sobreviva más allá de la hackathon? ¿Es viable? ¿Es la idea lo suficientemente prometedores para justificar desarrollo sostenido?

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Cómo se forman los equipos? El sábado por la mañana, habla con otros participantes para formar un equipo. Puedes usar el "shout-out" para reclutar miembros a tu equipo: di lo que esperas construir, los recursos que necesita para construirlo, e invitar a otros a unirse a tu equipo. El número máximo en un equipo es de cuatro.

¿Qué puedo usar para codificar? Puedes construir tus prototipos con "native code", APIs o plantillas. Puedes usar cualquier herramienta de análisis de datos, procesamiento o visualización que necesites para construir tu aplicación.

¿Qué recursos se me permite traer / uso durante el hackathon? Cualquier cosa que necesites para completar tu prototipo.

¿Tengo que llevar mi propio ordenador? Sí.

¿Quién es el dueño del código? Todo el código creado durante la hackathon es propiedad de los desarrolladores.

¿Puedo pasar toda la noche en el Hub? El Hub estará abierto durante todo el hackathon. Puedes entrar y salir cuando quieras.

¿Qué pasa si no termino el proyecto en el período de tiempo asignado? El prototipo será juzgado en base a lo que se haya completado.

¿Puedo llevar mi propia comida? Sí, pero habrá comida y bebida para el desayuno, el almuerzo y la cena.

Are you a developer or designer interested in building peace? This event is for you.

#peacehack is an initiative by International Alert that brings together technologists, designers, developers and peace practitioners to create and realise ideas and solutions that can be used to stop violent conflict and help build peace. Alert is partnering with several groups to organise simultaneous hacks in five cities around the world over the weekend of 26-27 September 2015 as part of the second Talking Peace Festival.

Challenges, prototypes and prizes

The proposed focus for the #peacehackBCN is peace and migration. At the start of the hack, peacebuilding practitioners will present several challenges they face in their work. You can read the challenges here. Hackers will then choose a challenge and work (individually or in teams) to build a prototype technology solution. These will be presented at the end of the hack to a panel of judges made up technology and peacebuilding professionals.

Prize!

The team that presents the best solution will receive a trip for two peope to the international conference on peace and technology Build Peace.

Judging criteria

The prototypes produced by developers will be judged according to the following criteria:
1. Impact: Does the app / project have a measureable impact?
2. User Experience and Presentation: Is the app / project simple, well-designed, and easy to use by non technical users?
3. Sustainability: How likely is the app / project to survive beyond the hackathon? Is it viable? Is the idea promising enough to warrant sustained development and attention?

FAQs

How are teams formed? On Saturday morning, network with others to form teams. Use the shout-out to recruit team members: say what you hope to build; say what resource you need to build it; invite others to join you. The maximum number in a team is four.

What can I use to code? Devs may build their prototypes via native code, APIs or templates. You may use any data analysis, processing or visualization tool you need to build your app.

What resources am I allowed to bring/use during the hackathon? Anything you need to complete your prototype.

Do I need to bring my own computer? Yes. We encourage devs to bring their own devices.

Who owns the code? All code created during the hackathon are the property of the developers.

Can I spend the entire night at the Hub or will I have to burn the midnight oil elsewhere? The Hub will be open for the entire duration of the hackathon. You are welcome to come and go as you please.

What if I don’t finish the project in the allotted time period? You will be judged based on the completed features. It will be up to the judges’ discretion to determine how your project ranks against other teams’ projects.

Can I bring my own food? You can, but we'll provide you with food and drink for breakfast, lunch and dinner and perhaps the occasional snack inbetween.
