We are proud to announce our next Algo-Trading Hackathon event on 6 Aug 2016. As you may know, we have recently teamed up with Quantopian and ran a very successful training event. To make sure that all the knowledge remains fresh in your memory and give you opportunity to practise what you’ve learned we put on this algo-trading competition based on the Quantopian platform.
Currently, the analysis of news sentiment is a very hot topic in automated trading and Quantopian will supply us with a wide dataset that we can use to build profitable algorithms. Additionally, during the Hackathon you will have access to some trading experts and you can fire all your questions at them.
This is a great opportunity to get your hands on some of the latest technology and try out your ideas with the help of some experts and other fellow Cybertraders.

10AM – 11AM: Introduction to Quantopian, dataset showcases, and explanation of competition rules.
11AM – 12PM: Hackathon Start. Competitors will be free to ask event organisers questions
12:00PM– 12:30PM: Lunch (catering included)
12:30PM – 5:30PM: Hackathon Afternoon Session. Competitors will be free to ask event organisers
5:30PM – 5:45PM: Final announcement of 6:00 submission deadline.
6:00PM – 6:30PM: Submission deadline, wrap-up.
Cost of attending the event is $50 ($40 for pre-booked tickets).
Prizes:
1st Prize: Free entry to the next Quantopian Workshop. Valued at over $600, the workshop is an all day event where experienced algorithmic traders work with you to develop your skills using Quantopian. The event is strictly limited and generally allows for no more than 25 people.
2nd Prize: A one on one session with two experts within the algorithmic trading sessions:
- Dr Tom Starke: Quantitative Developer at Vivienne Court and former hedge fund manager
- Kris Longmore: Author of "Robot Wealth", the online blog providing immense value to the quant community
Outlier Prize (Most Creative Algorithm): Your very own drone valued at $200. This prize is reserved for the person who produces the most unorthdox algorithm that through some miracle manages to get off the ground. it's only fitting that if you manage to get your algorithm to fly, you get your own drone too!
