Bringing students together with hackers, makers and industry professionals for a 27 hour event that will result in inspiration, real time education, new uses for existing technologies and access to talent for local industries.

At the Makeathon, we will have speakers highlighting the need areas and opportunities in each sector. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to pitch or present different problems or painpoints and their proposed solutions. Based on these pitches, teams will form and we will provide prototyping software from Autodesk and 3D printers along with mentorship support from technical experts to help you co-design and develop your ideas to ultimately demo on Sunday November 15th. Participants are encouraged to bring their own raw materials and tools/equipment that they anticipate needing for their projects. A tools and materials list is available on the website for suggestions of things that will come in handy during the event.
Autodesk will provide the Following at the makeathon:
1. Fusion 360 software for Students and Educators (FREE!!!)
2. Presentation on Autodesk, Inc.
3. A demo on our Student Expert boot camp program and to help them accelerate their career

Official Rules
1. ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to the general public and also welcomes current Sonoma State University, Santa Rosa Junior College, Rohnert Park Tech High and Credo High School students at least 14 years of age or older. All minors must be accompanied by an adult and have a signed permission slip with the name of the adult that will be accompanying them during the entire duration of the event. Any participant who is disruptive to the event for any reason may be asked to leave by security and will not be admitted back into the event. Once you are admitted to the event there are no exits and re-entries, you are there for the entire duration of the event. Only one meal is provided with your ticket, food will be available for purchase during the times noted on the agenda. If you have special food needs or concerns please let us know before the event. Coffee, tea and water will be provided. Your submission of an entry constitutes your representation of compliance and acceptance of these Official Rules and your consent for Sponsor to obtain, use, and transfer your name, address and other information for the purpose of Contest administration.
2. HOW TO ENTER: Entry consists of forming a team with five to ten other participants and participating in the Hack-a-thon on November 14th – 15th by submitting a project (“Project”) to the Makeathon. The Sponsor is not responsible for lost, incomplete, damaged, illegible, late, or misdirected entries, or for errors in mechanical transmission, technical difficulties, hardware or software program, network, Internet or computer malfunctions, failures or difficulties, errors or failures in transmission or reception and/or any condition caused by events beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsor which may cause the contest to be disrupted or corrupted. By entering, contestants release the Sponsor and its agents from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for damages or losses to persons and property that may be sustained in connection with the contest entry, participation in the Hack-a-thon, or ownership or use of the prize.
3.ENTRIES: Entrant represents and warrants the following with regard to any material in the Project: (a) All material in the Project is original material, does not contain any third party copyrighted material or material that is subject to other third party proprietary rights; (b) Entrant will not submit content that violates any law or SSU policy; (c) the content submitted by Entrant does not contain any viruses, Trojan horses, worms, or other disabling devices or harmful code; and (d) Entrant has the full right, power, and authority to enter into this Agreement and to grant the rights agreed to be granted hereunder; and (e) Entrant agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Sponsor from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses arising from any breach of any representation or warranty made hereunder. Entrants grant permission to Sponsor to use the Entrant’s name, picture, likeness, voice, biographical information, summaries of the Project, and related statements for any and all purposes, including advertising, trade, publicity, and promotional purposes without any compensation or notification to or approval by Entrant. Entrants retain the ownership rights to anything they develop at the Hackathon. 3. PRIZE: Prizes are to be determined by Sponsor. There is no substitution of prizes. Prizes may not be redeemed for cash value. If the entrant(s) selected declines to participate, becomes ineligible, or is unable to fulfill contest requirements, the prize or prize value will not be awarded to that individual(s).
4. DISCLAIMER AND WAIVER: The Sponsor does not endorse or make any representation about any prize or the quality of any services that are part of the prizes. Entrant will defend, indemnify & hold harmless the Sponsor and its agents from & against any liability, loss, injury or damage of any kind (including attorney’s fees) to any person or entity including, without limitation, personal injury, death or damage to personal or real property, due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by reason of the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of a prize, or participation in this Contest. Prizes are non-transferable and non-negotiable. The Sponsor is not responsible for prize delivery delays for any reason. No substitute prizes are available; however, the Sponsor may, at its discretion, award substitute prizes of equal or greater value.
5. SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION: A winner will be selected on Sunday November 15th by judges in their sole discretion based on the following criteria: (1) Quality and innovative nature of the project design; (2) Utility of the project; and (3) Degree to which the project development was collaborative among the team members. Teams will be required to record their progress on social media at five different intervals during the event for judges to track progress and collaboration. Winners will be notified in person on Sunday November 15th. If potential winners cannot be reached, or if he/she is found to be ineligible, or if he/she cannot or does not otherwise comply with these Official Rules, or if the winner is unable to use the prize, the next eligible entry chosen will be awarded the prize. All decisions regarding interpretation of these Official Rules and administration of the Contest made by judges are final and binding.
6. GOVERNING LAW: This Contest is governed and construed under the laws of the State of California and the venue for any action, claim or dispute arising hereunder shall be in Sonoma County, California. Each entrant waives any and all objections to jurisdiction and venue in those courts and hereby submit to the jurisdiction of those courts. All Federal, state and local laws and regulations are applicable. The Contest is void where restricted or prohibited by law.
7. ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS. Winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes. The return of a prize, inability of Sponsor to notify the winner, or the failure of the winner to submit any requested documents associated with the prize, will result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected. All entrants agree to comply with these Official Rules. Any person attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Contest and any person who does not comply with these Official Rules will be disqualified. The Sponsor at its sole discretion reserves the right to cancel or modify the Contest, without liability.
Release and Limitations of Liability:
By participating in the make-a-thon, entrants agree to release and hold harmless SoCo Nexus, the North Bay iHub, Sonoma State University, its partners, sponsors, their parent and related companies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the make-a-thon or receipt or use of any prize, including, but not limited to: (a) unauthorized human intervention in the make-a-thon; (b) technical errors related to computers, servers, providers, or telephone or network lines; (c) printing errors; (d) lost, late, postage-due, misdirected, or undeliverable mail; (e) errors in the administration of the make-a-thon or the processing of entries; or (f) injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the make-a-thon or receipt of any prize. Entrant further agrees that in any cause of action, the Released Parties’ liability will be limited to the cost of entering and participating in the make-a-thon, and in no event shall the Released Parties be liable for attorney’s fees. Entrant waives the right to claim any damages whatsoever, including, but not limited to, punitive, consequential, direct, or indirect damages.
University and Sponsor employees can participate, but the prize for an employee is limited to plaque, certificate or other presentation item with little intrinsic value. Multiple entries are welcome. Team entries are welcome.
