Seattle Mini VR Hackathon
Want to make cool stuff in VR?
Come join us for a day of designing VR experiences! Spend your Saturday diving into VR and leave with new knowledge and a project to put on your resume/portfolio.
There's no theme or prizes for this hackathon; we simply want to gather 15 creative and passionate people in a room and let our imaginations run loose.
This will be the first mini hackathon that we host here in Seattle, so let's make it a great one!
Who will be there
Anyone is welcome to sign up -- you don't need experience developing for VR to participate. We're going to have hackers from all sorts of backgrounds and levels of expertise, so it will be a great learning experience for everyone involved!
What it costs
We'll be charging $20 for registration:
$10 will go to venue expenses
$10 will be refunded to you at the end of the event
(So you're really just paying $10)
What we'll provide
HARDWARE: 2 Oculus DK2's and 2 Samsung Gears
FOOD: We will be providing snacks, but everyone will be ordering their own lunch (as a group). If you have any food allergies or preferences, please contact eva@ratlab.us.
What you need to bring
HARDWARE
-
Laptop or Desktop
-
If you have a VR headset, please bring one!
Don't worry if you don't have a fancy computer, or any computer at all. You'll just have to work things out with your team on the day of the event.
SOFTWARE*
-
Unity OR Unreal Engine 4 (game engine; make sure you have one of these)
-
Maya (for animation)
-
Blender (for 3D models)
-
PhotoShop (for textures)
-
Audacity (for sound)
*None of these are required, but they would be helpful to have for development purposes. Be sure to download software BEFORE the event. Some of them take painfully long to install. You can also download free art/sound assets online, though, so don't worry if you have never worked with
IDEAS
Bring ideas for what you'd like to work on, but don't worry if you can't think of anything.
SNACKS
Part of the entry price will go towards food, but bring some snacks/drinks of your own if you'd like.
Getting there
The space is walking distance from University Village in the U District.
There's a few parking spots in the lot behind the space, but also residential street parking. There's also a good amount of bus stops nearby.
