Session IX - Govhack, Mental Health & More

Data for Democracy Sydney brings the Sydney community together around data-driven projects for the common good, and supports the development of Sydney’s future data leaders as a hub for learning and networking.

Our session of June has three goals: presenting Data for Democracy to new members or anyone who is interested in what we do; helping selected projects to progress and giving data-driven insights of our community.

New members - You will get an overview of the tools we use and the projects we work on at the moment. You will also have the opportunity to get on board directly and join another project right after.

Members - Two projects need your help -- Govhack and Conviction Health.

  1. GovHack: GovHack is an open data hackathon, run annually by volunteers, focussed on unlocking the value in open data published by government. At this stage the main goal is to identify available data (scope, nature, access, usage permissions per policy, etc) and put strategies in place to collect where appropriate.

  2. Conviction Health: Conviction Group aims to encourage young people to re-evaluate their perspectives on pivotal issues concerning their health and provide them with the tools to enhance their decision-making. We have started collaborated with this organisation recently and need to have a team and new ideas.

Everyone - Some of the leaders have worked on the best way to collect and analyse data about community (surveys, API's, Tableau, etc.). Insights will be presented at the session!

More generally, the meetup is a great way to meet other like-minded people who are both data-driven and interested in having a better impact with their skills.
