Sheffield Tech for Good: Refugees
The next Sheffield Tech For Good meet up is on Tuesday 15 November at Yoomee's new office at 9 South Street, part of the redeveloped section of Park Hill.
We'll be starting at 6pm with four short talks until about 7.15pm, when we'll start socialising with food and drink, which is kindly sponsored by Tech North.
Each Sheffield Tech for Good meet up focuses on a single theme such, as mental health, the environment, education and social care. This meet up focuses on refugees and specifically, refugees in Sheffield.
Sheffield and the refugee crisis
There will be three sessions followed by a good hour for networking and general chit-chat.
First, you’ll get to hear about the Asylum Journey, a tool that came out of the Sheffugee hackathons. It’s gone from a paper prototype to something used by organisations across Sheffield to help refugees get the vital information they need.
We have a more general talk from those who are working hard to support asylum seekers and refugees in Sheffield. They’ll share the work they do and some ideas for how people in the tech community can get involved.
Finally, you’ll also hear from Sheffield Donations for Calais, a small local group that collects and sends donations for asylum seekers and refugees in desperate need in the refugee camps in France, Greece and even Syria.
Food, drink and finding us
Tech North have kindly sponsored food and drink for the event again, so no need to grab an after-work sandwich. And to find us, just head to Yoomee’s front entrance at Park Hill, the side facing the city centre. The address is 9 South Street, S2 5QY. Don’t worry. We’ll put some signs up.
Reserve your spot
The aim is to have 50% tech folk and 50% social good at each event. That’s why we have specific tickets set up on Eventbrite for each audience. If you work in tech, hit the big green register button and choose the 'tech' ticket. If you work for a charity, non-profit or identify as working in the general area of 'social good', choose the 'non-profit' ticket.
Note: Tech tickets are always popular, so we'd like to restrict tickets to one person per company to give everyone a chance to attend.
