Social Impact IoT workshop for Youth (Global Young Leaders Program Series)

    Global Young Leaders Program empowers middle and high school students to become “Next Generation Leaders”, through entrepreneurship and innovation. Join us for our three-hour STEM workshop where students will use MESH™ Internet of Things (IoT) that automates home features in an environmentally sustainable way. Students design solutions based on their personal experience, create prototypes using the MESH ™ Internet of Things (IoT), and finally pitch as a team.   Date: Saturday, March 21, 2020  Time: 10:00am-1:00pm  Location: Fujitsu Sunnyvale Campus 1240 E Arques Ave, H Building, Sunnyvale, CA 94087 This workshop is programmed to provide students with an awareness of challenges in people’s lives and how design could be used to solve a problem through new products and/or systems. This is also a selection process for the candidates of the Global Young Leaders Program (Program for youth leaders) at “The Global Summit” held in Tokyo in the summer of 2020. Those students who demonstrate their passion, creativity and leadership skills during the workshop will be selected to participate in the Global Young Leaders Program (Program for youth leaders) at “The Global Summit” held in Tokyo in the summer of 2020. ※Even if He or She is not sure whether to participate in the summer 2020 “The Global Summit” youth program in Japan, they are welcome to participate in this workshop!   Agenda -        Introduction of IoT and MESH (Takeoff Point) -        Breakout – Form teams of 2-4 people -        Ideation – Discuss Problem/Solution/Business Plan in a group -        Prototype – Create a functional prototype of solution using MESH -        Pitch – Present and demonstration your solution -        Presentation Feedback   The workshop is open to students ages 11 to 17. The registration fee includes program materials and snacks. No refunds will be given for registration fees unless the organizer cancels or reschedules the session. This program will be held at The Global Summit in August 2020 providing opportunities for middle and high school students to learn and present with leaders who address social issues such as the environment, gender equality, education, and wellbeing and get a glimpse of what their future may hold. Students will experience a variety of workshops and sessions throughout the program, including not only hackathons and pitches at the summit but also unique technologies and culture in Japan. By exploring various aspects of Japan and the world through the Summit, students will acquire the intellectual and professional aspects of world leaders. A: Participants are selected based on their attitude and commitment through the workshop. We particularly value 21st century skills. 21st century skills are tools that can be universally applied to enhance ways of thinking, learning, working and living in the world. The skills include critical thinking/reasoning, creativity/creative thinking, problem-solving, metacognition, collaboration, communication, and global citizenship.  Q: Is the registration fee refundable? A: The registration fee is non-refundable unless the organizer cancels the session.  Q: Do parents attend? A: The sessions are drop-off sessions and parents/chaperones are welcome to wait in the lobby or any of the lounge areas of the venue. Q: Is this program sponsored by a corporation or interest group? A: The Global Young Leaders Program is self-funded and managed by the organization through fees accrued from hosting sessions.
