Social ImpHacked: Socially Good Hacking

Hack good. Build things nonprofits need now.

Calling all engineers, designers, data scientists, and generally enthusiastic individuals! Social ImpHacked brings together tech and nonprofit worlds to provide technical assistance for local Bay Area nonprofits.

Over the course of a weekend we will solve some of the small but tangible problems that nonprofits face to increase efficiency and build relationships with existing and future clients.

We believe that by working hand-in-hand with local organizations, we can build technical solutions that truly make a difference in our communities.

So, come hack! There will be free food, music, fun, and a great network of awesome people.

All funding goes towards food, technical equipment, and space.

Who are we building for?

We took aim at a variety of different local issues, from homelessness to access to legal services. Every nonprofit will be on-site throughout the hackathon, and is classified as 501(c)3 nonprofit status by the IRS.

The following is a list of different nonprofits that will be in attendance:

Bananas Inc. (Oakland, CA) Bananas Inc. offers child care referrals and resources to families with young children in low-income, Bay Area communities. https://bananasbunch.org

Bayview/Hunters Point Community Legal  (San Francisco, CA) Bayview Legal is an award-winning nonprofit working to create the country’s first system of universal access to legal representation. They have an open clinic for low-income residents in the Bay Area to seek legal counsel. https://bhpcommunitylegal.org

The Fund for People in Parks  (San Francisco, CA) The Fund for People in the Parks assists National Parks and their local support groups with private funding and professional services for visitor-oriented park projects. https://www.peopleinparks.org

Juma Ventures  (San Francisco/Oakland, CA) Juma Ventures is a youth-run social enterprise that provides workforce development training opportunities to low-income youth. Juma compliments this with integrated programming that combines financial capability, education, and supportive career services. https://www.juma.org/

Raphael House (San Francisco, CA) Raphael House is a nonprofit and homeless shelter in the Tenderloin aimed at combatting homelessness in the Bay Area. More than 85% of all Raphael House families go on to achieve long-term housing and financial stability. https://www.raphaelhouse.org/

Inclusivity

Social ImpHacked seeks to create an inclusive environment, independent of race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, and physical ability. The hackathon space is handicap accessible, and we have gender-neutral bathrooms on site. For any concerns (including dietary restrictions), please email jessie@remindhq.com.
