South LA (SOLA)/Hackathon
Members of a community are too often relegated to being mere spectators of change. How can they instead become active participants and influencers in the changes that affect them most?
In this 1-day design hackathon, participants will use design thinking in an entrepreneurial spirit to address social, economic, and environmental challenges specific to the South L.A. community. Issues include homelessness, gentrification, lack of healthy food options, lack of tech opportunities, high foster child rates, voter discrimination, gun violence, the #MeToo movement, pollution and more. Participants will learn about these challenges with kick-off talks, and then form teams to brainstorm and rapidly prototype solutions.
There is a possibility that projects developed during the hackathon may be featured at the next TEDx Crenshaw event.
